The European tributary states of the Ottoman Empire in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries /

: The European Tributary States of the Ottoman Empire is the first comprehensive overview of the empire's relationship to its various European tributaries, Moldavia, Wallachia, Transylvania, Ragusa, the Crimean Khanate and the Cossack Hetmanate. The volume focuses on three fundamental aspects of the empire's relationship with these polities: the various legal frameworks which determined their positions within the imperial system, the diplomatic contacts through which they sought to influence the imperial center, and the military cooperation between them and the Porte. Bringing together studies by eminent experts and presenting results of several less-known historiographical traditions, this volume contributes significantly to a deeper understanding of Ottoman power at the peripheries of the empire.

Dimensions of Transformation in the Ottoman Empire from the Late Medieval Age to Modernity : In Memory of Metin Kunt /

: Eighteen expert researchers have come together to provide original articles and new perspectives on transformation throughout Ottoman history, in order to honor the life's work of Metin Kunt. This new collection focuses on the contributions of key players in these fields and includes chapters on Ottoman artisans in a changing political context, Ottoman chief scribes and the rhetorics of political survival in the 17th century, and empiricism in the Ottoman Empire. Working at home in the ancient Near East /

: 'Working at Home in the Ancient Near East' brings together the papers and discussions from an international workshop organised within the framework of the 10th International Congress on the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East held in Vienna in April 2016. It examines the organisation, scale, and the socio-economic role played by institutional and non-institutional households, as well as the social use of domestic spaces in Bronze Age Mesopotamia. The invited speakers - archaeologists, philologists, and historians specialising in ancient Mesopotamia - who approached these topics from different perspectives and by analysing different datasets were encouraged to exchange their views and to discuss methodological concerns and common problems.
