It is a consolidated tradition that the 'Proceedings of the International Congresses of Coptic Studies' include both papers organized thematically - according to sections and panels - and a larger group of general reportraits, provided with a rich bibliography, about new research trends and acquisitions in a particular field of Coptology: art, archaeology, literature, linguistics, monasticism, Gnosticism, magic, etc. 'The Proceedings of the Tenth International Congress of Coptic Studies', in particular, contain the reportraits delivered during the Cairo Congress of 2008 (covering the period 2002-2008) and those pronounced during the Rome Congress of 2012 (covering the period 2008-2014), the latter characterized by two new reportraits: "Shenutean studies" and "Ethiopic studies in relation to Egyptian culture". Moreover, it is worth mentioning that for the first time some papers are organized in panels dedicated to very specific topics, in which current research is particularly alive, such as "Bawit: a monastic community, its structure and texts", "Thebes in Late Antiquity", or "The reconstruction and edition of Coptic Biblical Manuscripts". The outcome is a series of tools for the study of Christian Egypt and essays about Coptic literature, art and archaeology seen on the backdrop of Late Antique and Medieval Egyptian society and religion.

The papers gathered in this book were presented at the First International Conference (held in Paris, University of Sorbonne, October 27th-28th 2006), devoted to the newly discovered Gospel of Judas, preserved in the 4th century Coptic Codex Tchacos. These essays explore several crucial literary, historical and doctrinal issues related to this gospel, composed in the second half of the 2nd century. This unexpected discovery sheds a new light on the role attributed to Judas by some Gnostic Christian movements. A hotly debated question is precisely the significance of Judas in this gospel: hero or villain? Special attention is given to the sources - Greek, Jewish, Christian and even Iranian - used by the unknown author. Recent research on the text of the Psalms and Gospels in Greek and in certain versions, principally Coptic, Georgian and Armenian, reveals common characteristics when attempting to separate later editions of a text from its earliest forms. The essays in this collection give concrete examples of the issues involved and suggested explanations for textual changes. Les versions anciennes de la Bible ont un intérêt majeur dans la mesure où elles traduisent un modèle qui n'est pas celui des traductions modernes et conservent ainsi des formes textuelles disparues, souvent très anciennes. C'est en particulier le cas des versions géorgiennes, pour lesquelles des convergences sont apparues entre les recherches menées à Tbilisi et dans diverses équipes européennes. Centré sur les psaumes et les évangiles, le colloque a réuni des communications concernant diverses langues de versions anciennes, en particulier le géogien, mais aussi le copte, le syriaque, l'arménien et l'albanien du Caucase, à partir du grec de la Septante et du Nouveau Testament.
