Le Corps dans le roman des écrivaines syriennes contemporaines , de Martina Censi, explore les représentations du corps dans un corpus de romans en arabe publiés (entre 2004 et 2011) par six écrivaines syriennes. L'auteure conjugue l'analyse du texte littéraire avec la critique féministe et les études de genre. Par cette approche interdisciplinaire, Censi démontre que l'attention reservée par ces écrivaines aux représentations du corps féminin et masculin témoigne de leurs engagements dans la lutte pour l'émancipation des femmes, mais aussi, et surtout, dans celle pour l'affirmation de l'individu dans la société syrienne contemporaine. Les corps des personnages, marqués par leur différence unique, sont le lieu symbolique de la négociation entre les instances individuelles et collectives. In Le Corps dans le roman des écrivaines syriennes contemporaines , Martina Censi explores the representation of the body in a selection of Arabic novels published (between 2004 and 2011) by six Syrian women authors. Taking an interdisciplinary approach, which combines analysis of the literary texts with Feminist Criticism and Gender Studies, Censi demonstrates that, by focusing on the representation of female and male bodies, these novelists deal not only with feminist issues related to women's emancipation. The author reveals that they also engage in a broader analysis concerning the status of the individual in contemporary Syrian society. Marked by their unique difference, the characters' bodies become the symbolic location for the negotiation between individual and collective claims.

A much discussed question in classical studies is the comparison between the situation of poets in Augustan Rome and that of artists and intellectuals in the totalitarian regimes of the twentieth century. Lucia Ceci reconstructs the relationship between the Catholic Church and Fascism. New sources from the Vatican Archives throw fresh light on individual aspects of this complex relationship: the accession of Mussolini to power, the war in Ethiopia, the racial laws, the comparison between Pius XI and Pius XII. This book offers a comprehensive reconstruction of this encounter, explaining the criteria that led Catholics to support a dictatorial, warmongering and racist regime. In contrast to the traditional periodization, the history begins with the childhood of Mussolini in the final years of the nineteenth century, and ends with the sudden collapse of his puppet regime, in 1945. This means to some extent placing in a different light the exceptional nature of the ventennio. The Italian original L'interesse superiore, Il Vaticano e l'Italia di Mussolini has won the "Friuli Storia" Prize for Studies of Contemporary History.

This volume presents the 25 years correspondence of a Roman Catholic missionary, Fr. François Laydevant, who worked in Lesotho from 1905 to 1954, with a Roman Catholic missiologist, Fr. Albert Perbal, based in Rome, Italy. The exchange of letters was provoked by the missiologist who needed direct information from the mission field for his own research and teaching, and first of all in order to fulfil his role of consultant with the Institute for the Study of African Languages and Cultures in London and the Conference Romaine des Missions Catholiques d'Afrique in Rome. The main result of the correspondence, apart from fulfilling the above stated purpose, was to propel Fr. Laydevant into fruitful anthropological, ethnological and historical research into Lesotho and its people. The correspondence deals with many contemporary missiological problems of the time. It is also a primary source for the history of the Church in Lesotho, in particular the Roman Catholic Church. FRENCH TEXT Ce volume comprend la correspondance de vingt-cinq ans d'un missionnaire catholique, le Père François Laydevant, qui travailla au Lesotho de 1905 à 1954, avec un missiologue catholique, le Père Albert Perbal, qui demeurait à Rome. C'est le missiologue qui provoqua l'échange de lettres. Il avait besoin d'information directe à partir du champ missionnaire pour ses recherches et son enseignement et d'abord pour remplir son rôle auprès de l'Institut pour l'Étude des langues et des Cultures Africaines à Londres et auprès de la Conférence Romaine des Missions Catholiques d'Afrique à Rome. Le résultat le plus évident de cette correspondance fut de lancer le Père Laydevant dans les recherches ethnologiques, anthropologiques et historiques sur le Lesotho et son peuple. La correspondance aborde plusieurs questions missiologiques contemporaines au cours de ces 25 ans et demeure une source primaire pour l'histoire de l'Église au Lesotho, en particulier l'Église Catholique.

In David du Plessis and the Assemblies of God Joshua R. Ziefle details the complicated tensions that arose during the Charismatic Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He highlights the story of Pentecostal missionary David du Plessis, whose deep involvement in every area of the revival illustrates the tenor of the movement and the controversies it engendered. Du Plessis's ejection from the ministerial ranks of the Assemblies of God over his continued involvement with non-Pentecostals and the denomination's slow but steady rapprochement with the ecumenism of the Charismatic Movement are important themes in this monograph. The history of Palestine War does not only concern military history. It also involves social, humanitarian and religious history, as in the case of Jerusalem's Roman Catholic diocese. Tribulationis Tempore offers a complex narrative on this church, commonly portrayed as monolithically aligned with anti-Zionist and anti-Muslim positions during the "long 1948". Making use of largely unpublished archives in the Middle East, Europe and the United States, including the recently released Pius XII papers, Maria Chiara Rioli depicts a church engaged in multiple and sometimes contradictory pastoral initiatives amid battles, relief missions for Palestinian refugees, theological reflections on Jewish converts to Catholicism, political relations with the Israeli and Jordanian authorities and liturgical responses to this fluid and uncertain scenario.
