Günther E. Thüry

Prof. Günther E. Thüry (born Vienna 1950) has been a university lecturer in Ancient History at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg since 1980 (at times in combination with teaching assignments at the universities of Basel, Krems, Leipzig and Vienna). He completed his studies in the fields of prehistory and early history, archaeobiology and classical philology (Latin and Greek studies) with a master's thesis in numismatics and a dissertation in provincial archaeology. In 2007, he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel for services to cooperation between archaeology and natural sciences; and in 2018, he was awarded the title of professor by the Austrian Federal President. Prof. Thüry is the author of 345 publications (including 18 published books).
