In this commentary on the Egerton Gospel, Lorne R. Zelyck presents a fresh paleographical analysis and thorough reconstruction of the fragmentary text, which results in new readings and interpretations. Details surrounding the acquisition of the manuscript are presented for the first time, and various scholarly viewpoints on controversial topics, such as the date of composition and relationship to the canonical gospels, are addressed. This early apocryphal gospel (150-250 CE) provides traditional interpretations of the canonical gospels that are similar to those of other early Christian authors, and affirms Jesus' continuity with the miracle-working prophets Moses and Elisha, his obedience to the Law, divinity, and violent rejection by Jewish opponents.

Since ancient works were preserved by means of handwritten copies, critical enquiry into their texts necessitates the study of such copies. In P.Beatty III (P47): The Codex, Its Scribe, and Its Text , Peter Malik focuses on the earliest extensive copy of the Book of Revelation. Integrating matters of palaeography, codicology, and scribal practice with textual analysis, Malik sheds new light on this largely neglected, yet crucially important, early Christian papyrus. Notable contributions include a new proposed date for P47, identification of several previously unreported scribal corrections, as well as the discovery of the manuscript's close affinity with the Sahidic version. Significantly, Malik's detailed, data-rich analyses are accompanied by a fresh transcription and, for the first time, high-resolution colour photographs of the manuscript.

This volume deals with the important Herculanean and philosophical studies of the great Viennese Hellenist Theodor Gomperz. The introduction presents both a concise biography of Gomperz and a careful discussion of his work on the Herculanean Papyri of Epicurus and Philodemus. Gomperz's essays, reprinted for the first time, are collected here in a photomechanical reprint and furnished with a new pagination. To respect the historical character of the collection no updating of the articles has been attempted. An Index of the Herculanean Papyri and a Concordance complete the book. Der Gedanke, eine Auswahl der Herculanensia minora von Theodor Gomperz, wenn auch als fotomechanischen Nachdruck, wieder vorzulegen, enstand sowohl aus dem Wunsch, diese Publikationen wieder zugänglich zu machen, als auch besonders aus dem Willen, bei dieser Gelegenheit dem Gelehrten, der sich ununterbrochen Zeit seines Lebens mit schöpferischem und unermündlichem Eifer den herkulanensichen Papyri gewidmet hat, die gebührende Anerkennung zukommen zu lassen. Unter den vielen herkulanischen Schriften von Gomperz wurde eine notwendige Auswahl vorgenommen. Um den historischen Charakter der Beiträge zu wahren, wurden Aktualisierungen vermieden, allerdings ein Index der herkulanischen Papyri hinzugefügt.
