Statio amoena : sostare e vivere lungo le strade Romane /

: New archaeological research and new studies on a rich and diverse body of extra-archaeological sources have recently reported the attention of the international scientific community on the subject of parking places, within the more general theme of the smaller settlements in the Roman world and their evolution in late antiquity and early medieval times. This volume brings together contributions from scholars from three different generations, starting from different sources and methodological approaches, converging towards the construction of an area of common reflection on a theme still relatively underdeveloped. The goal is to lay the foundation for a deepening of the interdisciplinary debate and to develop new research projects.

The busy periphery : urban systems of the Balkan and Danube Provinces (2nd-3rd c. AD) /

: The Busy Periphery: Urban Systems of the Balkan and Danube Provinces (2nd - 3rd c. AD) considers the reconstruction of the urban geography of the Balkan and Danube provinces at the time of the Severan dynasty. Four basic parameters governed the focus of research: the origin and socio-economic character of the settlements, their size, micro-location, and the size of their administrative territories. The principal goal was to map the variable developments of the urban network, both between and within the sub-regions that constituted this part of the Roman Empire.

Roman Imperial Titulature and Chronology, A.D. 235-284 /

: Peachin, M. Roman Imperial Titulature and Chronology, A.D. 235-284. 1989 This study is a basic work of reference for the history of the Roman Empire during the midthird century A.D. The book consists of two principal parts. Part two, upon which the first is based, is a catalogue that lists all known variants of the titulature of each emperor from this period. In turn, each variant is accompanied by a list of all attestations (including coins, inscriptions, papyri) of that formula. An introduction traces briefly the historical development of the official titular formula, and then discusses the method of granting this formula at the beginning of the period in question. The introduction is followed by a chapter that evaluates the source material. Given a secure basic understanding of how the ancient testimonia are to be employed, the book then progresses to a chapter that sets out a complete chronology for the period. SA 29 (1989), 543 p.
