The Chinese Christology of T.C. Chao /

: This volume offers a careful analysis of the contextual Christology of T. C. Chao, one of the most important Chinese theologians and Chinese church leaders in the first half of twentieth century. At the core of Chao's Christology is the encounter between Christianity and the Chinese people, in particular the Chinese Christians. In response to the rapid social changes in China between 1910-1950, he attempted to develop a relevant theology by focusing on the characteristics of Christianity and, at the same time, aiming to understand Christianity within its Chinese context.

Kingdom Come : Revisioning Pentecostal Eschatology /

: In his Pentecostal Spirituality: A Passion for the Kingdom (1993), theologian Steven J. Land issued a clarion call for Pentecostal theologians to reconsider eschatology outside the categories of premillennial dispensationalism. Kingdom Come: Revisioning Pentecostal Eschatology is Matthew Thompson's constructive answer to Land's invitation. Thompson persuasively argues that Pentecostalism's adoption of premillennial dispensationalism as a hermeneutic, as a philosophy of history and as an eschatology robs the movement of the potential for dynamic growth and of profound experiences of the power of the Holy Spirit. Thompson concludes his account with an engagement of the eschatologies of John Fletcher, Jürgen Moltmann and Sergius Bulgakov in order to construct what he terms a genuinely Pentecostal eschatology formulated thematically through the lens of the five-fold Pentecostal Full Gospel.

The Spirit of Liberation : Jürgen Moltmann's Trinitarian Pneumatology /

: With this study on Moltmann's pneumoatology the author recently obtained the doctor's degree from the Faculty of Theology of the Free University in Amsterdam. First of all, the book provides us with a thorough evaluation of the role the Holy Spirit plays in the theology of Jürgen Moltmann in its subsequent phases. The author's conclusion is that despite all differences there is one contstant factor: the Spirit is always connected with freedom. The Holy Spirit, according to Moltmann, is a liberating power. Because the author is eager to place Moltmann's pneumatology repeatedly in the context of his theology as a whole and of its developments, this book offers - and that is a second quality - an outstanding insight in the whole of Moltmann's theology and its development throughout the years.

Problem and promise in Colin E. Gunton's doctrine of creation /

: While much dialogue has focused on aspects of Colin Gunton's Trinitarian theology, there has been a need for a full-scale study of Gunton's doctrine of creation that locates the significance of his understanding of creation within the wider spectrum of his theology. Problem and Promise demonstrates how Gunton's doctrine of creation cannot be read in abstraction from his Trinitarian theology and argues that creation remains a central feature in Gunton's writing that holds lasting importance for understanding ethical and moral aspects of Gunton's theology. William B. Whitney establishes how this Trinitarian account of creation goes beyond offering a theological description of the created realm and also provides the basis for understanding human involvement in creation through the enterprises of culture.
