Der Fund der Wandmalereien im Palast von Qatna in Westsyrien stellte im Jahre 2000 eine der ersten grossen Überraschungen in der Geschichte der modernen Ausgrabungen in Qatna dar. Mit ihren Spiralbändern, Miniaturlandschaften und Delphindarstellungen wirkten die Malereien in Syrien eigentümlich fremd, während sie hingegen den Fresken der Ägäis stark ähnelten. Wie kamen diese Gestaltungselemente nach Qatna? Constance von Rüdens Untersuchung widmet sich neben der Rekonstruktion der Malereien auch der Analyse ihrer stilistischen, motivlichen und kompositorischen Aspekte, um hierüber zu einem besseren Verständnis dafür zu gelangen, welche transmediterranen Kommunikationsprozesse der auffälligen Wandgestaltung zugrunde gelegen haben.
