Im 4. Jahrhundert v.Chr. werden drei Regionen der östlichen Mittelmeerwelt durch urbanistische Massnahmen tiefgreifend umgestaltet. Während in Arkadien mit Megalopolis eine neue Metropole entsteht, folgen in der Dodekanes auf die Neugründung von Rhodos die Städtebauprojekte von Halikarnassos, Kos, Knidos und Myndos und in Makedonien baut König Archelaos Pella zu seiner neuen Hauptstadt aus. 0Martin Tombrägel rekonstruiert in seiner Studie Verlauf, Ursachen und Hintergründe der städtebaulichen Vorgänge in diesen drei Regionen unter Berücksichtigung neuerer Ausgrabungsergebnisse. Dabei gilt das Hauptinteresse den urbanistischen Errungenschaften der neuen spätklassischen Städte, in denen u.a. mit der Gestaltung individueller Stadtbilder experimentiert wird. Tombrägel nähert sich seiner Fragestellung unter Berücksichtigung zweier übergreifender Forschungsdiskurse: Einerseits wird analysiert, inwieweit sich die naturräumlichen, geopolitischen und ökonomischen Unterschiede der jeweiligen Regionen auf den Verlauf der Städtebauprojekte ausgewirkt haben, andererseits ist mit der Untersuchung ein methodenkritischer Ansatz verbunden, der danach fragt, wie literarische und archäologische Quellen einzeln und zusammenhängend historisch interpretiert werden können.

Das Ritual der Aštu (CTH 490) : Rekonstruktion und Tradition eines hurritisch-hethitischen Rituals aus Boğazköy/Ḫattuša /

The Ritual of Aštu, a text found at the Hittite Capital of Hattuša, shows strong influence from southern Anatolia and describes a Hurrian-Hittite ritual against witchcraft and sorcery. The following study provides detailed philological treatment of the 13th-century fragments found at Hattuša, from which the ritual is known, including transcription, translation, and commentary of all manuscripts, as well as special emphasis on the Hurrian passages of the ritual. Reconstruction of the more fragmentary sections is undertaken through comparison to other rituals. The study concludes with an analysis of Anatolian, Luwian, and Kizzuwatnaian influences evident in the ritual, and affords, in sum, valuable additions to the study of the nature of Hittite archives, and the development of ritual texts. "I firmly believe that works like this are essential to creating the dialogue that is necessary for the progress of our understanding of Hurrian. Die Untersuchung rückt den Römer Senat einer ?langen Kaiserzeit? ins Zentrum der Betrachtungen. Ausgangspunkt ist die kontinuierliche Besetzung vom 1. bis ins 6. Jh. der Curia Iulia/Diocletiana, eines Zentralortes der römischen Myth-Historie. Bildlich-archäologische, epigraphische, numismatische und literarische Befunde zeugen von den komplexen Rollenspielen und Kompetenzverschränkungen, welche das Verhältnis zwischen SPQR und Caesares Augusti Imperatores epochenübergreifend bestimmen. Ägyptisches Kulturgut im phönikischen und punischen Sardinien /

From the early part of the first century BC, Egyptian cultural artefacts spread to an increasing degree into Palestine and Syria and (via the Greeks and Phoenicians) into the Greek, Italian and Western Phoenician spheres. Following a presentation of the Near Eastern background and a survey of Sardinian findspots, this work lists the types of monument found on Sardinia (from the 8th c. to the Roman period). In the case of both amulets (gods in human and animal form) and scarabs made if steatite and fayence an attempt is made, using a carefully developed typology (both of material and form) and other statistical criteria, to derive a characterisation of groups of differing origin (Egyptian, Eastern Phoenician, Punic). These objects reflect the expansion and adaptation of polupar Egyptian magic. Even the Egyptian motifs on hard-stone Punic scarabs and precious-metal artefacts have a religious significance, which is very closely related to Egyptian concepts. In the same way the Egyptian elements on Punic steles and portions of architecture underline their sacral character. This study pursues methodological goals using evidence from the whole of Mediterranean area.
