Essai bibliographique sur l'archéologie francophone de la mésoamérique = Bibliographical essay upon the French-speaking contributions to Mesoamerican archaeology = Ensayo bibliográ...

: The present bibliography of contributions in French to Mesoamerican studies aims to serve several purposes. For more than a century, Spanish, English and French were the three official languages of the International Congresses of Americanists. This situation stems from historical reasons: the first Congresses took place in Nancy, Luxemburg and Brussels. Since the fifties, the steady growth of Mexican and Central American national researches and the ever-growing weight of United States investigators slowly occulted the French contributions. Conversely, the establishment of research institutions in Belgium, Switzerland, France and Canada facilitated the multiplication of investigation projects in the whole continent, with their correlative publications.

LRFW 1 - Late Roman fine wares : solving problems of typology and chronology : a review of the evidence, debate and new contexts /

: In November 2008, an ICREA/ESF Exploratory Workshop on the subject of late Roman fine wares was held in Barcelona, the main aim being the clarification of problems regarding the typology and chronology of the three principal table wares found in Mediterranean contexts (African Red Slip Ware, Late Roman C and Late Roman D). The discussion highlighted the need to undertake a similar approach for other ceramic classes across the Mediterranean provinces. In addition, it was perceived that ceramic studies are often dispersed and in such a variety of publications that it is difficult to follow progress in this vast field. Therefore, a series devoted to Roman and late Antique pottery in the Mediterranean was proposed to serve as a reference point for all potential authors devoted to pottery studies on a pan-Mediterranean basis.

Soldados, armas y batallas en los grafitos históricos /

: This edited volume deals with the presence and representation of the military in historical graffiti and also those military enclaves that tell us their history through their graffiti. The backbone of this publication is the study of various sets of historical military-themed graffiti (representations of battles, armaments, infrastructure, warriors and soldiers, slogans or proclamations, etc.), all of them drawings and/or messages engraved in spaces linked to defence culture (the walls of castles, barracks, sentry boxes, prisons or bunkers, among others). The compendium of collected chapters presents us with a holistic and multi-temporal vision from the ancient world to contemporary times; from Pompeii to America, and with a particular focus on the Iberian Peninsula.

Gallaecia gothica : from the conspiracy of Dux Argimundus (AD 589/590) to integration in the visgothic kingdom of Toledo /

: 'Gallaecia Gothica' offers a new interpretation of the Argimundus rebellion, one of the most difficult challenges of Reccared's reign. There are no specific details of how the conspiracy came about, but the throne was seriously threatened. The Chronicle of John of Biclaro underlined the gravity of this menace in his description of the punishment suffered by the rebel and his collaborators. His categorical condemnation of the attempted overthrow of the monarch is unlike that given to any other uprising narrated in the Chronicle, and it shows the importance that the abbot of Biclaro gave it in his narration.
