Integration is a buzzword in the 21st century. However, academics still do not agree on its meaning and, above all, on its consequences. This book offers numerous examples showing that the inhabitants of the Roman Mediterranean were "integrated", i.e. were aware of the existence of a common framework of coexistence, without this necessarily resulting in a process of cultural convergence. The Spanish poet Martial explicitly refuses to be considered the brother of the Greek Charmenion (10.65): paradoxically, while reaffirming their differences, his satirical epigram confirms the existence of a common frame of reference that encompasses them both. Thus, understanding integration in the Roman world requires paying attention to the multifarious situations that allow to glimpse the complexity of integration in Roman times.

Der vorliegende Band beleuchtet die Rezeption, die Eckharts Mystik in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus erfahren hat. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei die verschiedenen und teilweise widersprüchlichen Versuche, Eckhart zum Begründer eines "germanischen Christentums" bzw. eines "deutschen Glaubens" zu stilisieren und ihn in polemischer Weise gegen das Judentum, aber auch gegen die Katholische Kirche in Stellung zu bringen. Meister Eckhart is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating medieval authors, who has appealed to a wide audience across the centuries. At the same time, the extraordinary universality and openness of his mystical-theological approach has repeatedly made him the object of all kinds of ideological projections and misinterpretations. The present volume examines the reception of Eckhart's mysticism in the era of National Socialism. The main focus is put on the different and sometimes contradictory attempts to present Eckhart as the founder of "Germanic Christianity" or "German faith" and as a visceral opponent of both Judaism and the Catholic Church.

Is the establishment of the millennium binding of Satan cohesively linked with Jesus's victorious battle in the Book of Revelation? This study is the first to answer this frequently debated question from a linguistic perspective.
This study argues that the establishment of the millennium binding of Satan and the vindication of the saints in Revelation 20:1-6 are cohesively linked with Jesus's victorious battle in Revelation 19:11-21. The major implication of this analysis views both these events as consequent effects of Christ's victory at the eschatological battle. Applying systemic functional linguistics and discourse analysis of cohesion, this study advances critical scholarship on the Book of Revelation by offering the first fully sustained answer to this frequently debated question regarding Satan's binding from a modern linguistic approach.

Inscriptions on buildings are a distinctive feature of Islamic architecture, and this book studies the 79 surviving monumental inscriptions in the Iranian world from the first five centuries of the Muslim era (A.D. 622-1106), the period in which all the major trends of monumental epigraphy in the area were set. These foundation, commemorative, and funerary texts come from the region between Iraq and Soviet Central Asia. Written primarily in Arabic, they embellished architectural monuments and furnishings whose nature implies the construction of major buildings. An extended introduction discusses such general topics as titulature, patronage, and stylistic development. Each text is then presented individually with photographs, drawings, transcriptions, translations and an extensive commentary, which presents the inscription in its larger palaeographic and historical contexts.

Cet ouvrage montre que la filiation par le nom et l'héritage a, dans le monde arabe et musulman, une autre dimension plus fondamentale sinon fondatrice, la filiation symbolique ou le principe du père.Le conte-cadre met en scène un conflit entre deux frères sur l'origine de la fratrie et, par conséquent, de la filiation: est-elle maternelle ou paternelle? Deux contes montrent que la parole vivante est l'espace où se fonde le principe du père en tant que principe de vie pour le sujet. Dès qu'il y accède, cette parole le délie de la mort, particulièrement celle liée au noeud oedipien (inceste-parricide-infanticide). Enfin, accéder à cette parole n'est pas chose aisée. L'échec vient de l'équivocité de la parole laquelle conduit à la perversion. La réussite repose le plus souvent, non sur l'amour, mais sur le savoir, un savoir incomplet.
