Patristic literature in Arabic translations /

: "Patristic Literature in Arabic Translations offers a panoramic survey of the Arabic translations of the Church Fathers, focusing on those produced in the Palestinian monasteries and at Sinai in the 8th-10th centuries and in Antioch during Byzantine rule (969-1084). These Arabic translations frequently preserve material lost in the original languages (mainly Greek and Syriac). They offer crucial information about the diffusion and influence of patristic heritage among Middle Eastern Christians from the 8th century to the present. A systematic examination of Arabic patristic translations paves the way to an assessment of their impact on Muslim and Jewish theological thought".

Babylonian disputation poems : with editions of the series of the poplar, palm and vine, the series. of the spider, and the story of the poor, forlorn.

: In The Babylonian Disputation Poems Enrique Jiménez studies a group of ancient Babylonian poems that feature discussions between animals and trees. Using intertextual parallels and comparison with similar works in other literatures, he espouses a new classification of the Babylonian disputation poems as parodies. After examining neighboring traditions of literary disputation, he argues that the Babylonian poems influenced them, and that some may have been translated from Akkadian to Aramaic, from Aramaic and Syriac to Arabic. In addition, The Babylonian Disputation Poems provides editions of several previously unpublished Babylonian disputations, such as Palm and Vine and the Series of the Spider . It also offers the first edition of the latest known Babylonian fable, The Story of the Poor, Forlorn Wren .

Le voyage à Héliopolis : description des vestiges pharaoniques et des traditions associées depuis Hérodote jusqu'à l'Expédition d'Egypte /

: "The city of Heliopolis in Egypt has always fascinated its visitors. Some recognized the residence of the famous magician-priests of the Phraraohs, those who gave their teachings to some great men of ancient Greece; others, the places of famous episodes of the Holy Scriptures; even others, some strange remains with miraculous virtues. This book gathers the descriptions of Heliopolis and its ruins by pilgrims, travelers, geographers and historians from different cultural backgrounds: Greeks, Romans, Muslims, Jewishs [sic], Christians of Orient and Occident. These testimonies, from the 5th century BC to the end of the 18th century AC, tell us about the appearance of the site and its monuments over the centuries, its history and above all, teh legends developed around this universal symbolic place" -- Page [4] of cover.
