"In this book, Anne Porter explores the idea that mobile and sedentary members of the ancient world were integral parts of the same social and political groups in greater Mesopotamia during the period 4000 to 1500 BCE. She draws on a wide range of archaeological and cuneiform sources to show how networks of social structure, political and religious ideology, and everyday as well as ritual practice, worked to maintain the integrity of those groups when the pursuit of different subsistence activities dispersed them over space. The contributions in this volume focus on the present situation of these communities, their relation to mainstream Islam, their involvement in national and ethnic politics, aspects of faith and rituals, the relevance of sacred texts, modes of religious and social transformation, and the recent revival of Alevism. This text presents comparative studies of three ceramic ware groups found at Ephesos (modern day Turkey): Appliqué Ware, White-grounded ware and Pergamene Sigillata. Until now they were considered to be products made in and imported from Pergamon, but intensive archaeometrical analysis demonstrate that they were produced locally.
