Paul and the Corinthians : studies on a community in conflict : essays in honour of of Margaret Thrall /
:
This volume has 1 and 2 Corinthians as its main focus where the various contributors address significant aspects of text, language, background, theology and exegesis. The first part of the volume deals with the issues of textual criticism and traditions available to Paul, while the second section is interdisciplinary in nature and integrates different methodologies such as social-scientific and rhetorical criticism in order to provide new insights into the text. The third and longest section addresses the varied theological problems which the community raised with Paul, including sexual matters, the timing of the resurrection the resurrection body, authority and headship, soteriology, and the question of Paul's faithfulness and integrity. The final section concentrates on the identity of Paul's opponents, his visions and apologetics.

Transcendence and sensoriness : perceptions, revelation, and the Arts /
:
Protestant theology and culture are known for a reserved, at times skeptical, attitude to the use of art and aesthetic forms of expression in a religious context. In Transcendence and Sensoriness , this attitude is analysed and discussed both theoretically and through case studies considered in a broad theological and philosophical framework of religious aesthetics. Nordic scholars of theology, philosophy, art, music, and architecture, discuss questions of transcendence, the human senses, and the arts in order to challenge established perspectives within the aesthetics of religion and theology.

Senses of scripture, treasures of tradition : the Bible in Arabic among Jews, Christians and Muslims /
:
Senses of Scripture, Treasures of Tradition offers recent findings on the reception, translation and use of the Bible in Arabic among Jews, Samaritans, Christians and Muslims from the early Islamic era to the present day. In this volume, edited by Miriam L. Hjälm, scholars from different fields have joined forces to illuminate various aspects of the Bible in Arabic: it depicts the characteristics of this abundant and diverse textual heritage, describes how the biblical message was made relevant for communities in the Near East and makes hitherto unpublished Arabic texts available. It also shows how various communities interacted in their choice of shared terminology and topics, and how Arabic Bible translations moved from one religious community to another. Contributors include: Amir Ashur, Mats Eskhult, Nathan Gibson, Dennis Halft, Miriam L. Hjälm, Cornelia Horn, Naḥem Ilan, Rana H. Issa, Geoffrey K. Martin, Roy Michael McCoy III, Juan Pedro Monferrer-Sala, Meirav Nadler-Akirav, Sivan Nir, Meira Polliack, Arik Sadan, Ilana Sasson, David Sklare, Peter Tarras, Alexander Treiger, Frank Weigelt, Vevian Zaki, Marzena Zawanowska.

Studies in Deuteronomy : in honour of C.J. Labuschagne on the occasion of his 65th birthday /
:
Studies in Deuteronomy was compiled as a respectful tribute to Professor C.J. Labuschagne and was presented to him on the occasion of his 65th birthday. The choice of the book of Deuteronomy as a fitting topic for a collection of commemorative essays reflects the focus of Professor Labuschagne's own research on this part of the Bible in recent years. The essays, which employ a variety of methodological approaches to the study of Deuteronomy, deal with such subjects as Masoretic, Septuagintal and Qumran variations in the text of Deuteronomy, Deuteronomic elements in other biblical books, and the reception history of Deuteronomy in the Jewish and Christian worlds. Included also is a first edition of some Deuteronomy manuscripts from Qumran, Masada and Nahal Hever.

Reading the Gospel of John's Christology as Jewish Messianism : royal, prophetic, and divine messiahs /
:
The essays in Reading the Gospel of John's Christology as Jewish Messianism: Royal, Prophetic, and Divine Messiahs seek to interpret John's Jesus as part of Second Temple Jewish messianic expectations. The Fourth Gospel is rarely considered part of the world of early Judaism. While many have noted John's Jewishness, most have not understood John's Messiah as a Jewish messiah. The Johannine Jesus, who descends from heaven, is declared the Word made flesh, and claims oneness with the Father, is no less Jewish than other messiahs depicted in early Judaism. John's Jesus is at home on the spectrum of early Judaism's royal, prophetic, and divine messiahs

Reflections on the early Christian history of religion = Erwägungen zur frühchristlichen religionsgeschichte /
:
Reflections on the Early Christian History of Religion documents the results of two recent workshops on Martin Hengel's and Maria Schwemer's first volume of first volume of Geschichte des frühen Christentums ( Jesus und das Judentum [title of volume 1], Tübingen 2007) and Larry Hurtado's Lord Jesus Christ: Devotion to Jesus in Earliest Christianity (Grand Rapids 2003). The contributors, including Hengel himself, focus on problems and possibilities of studying and presenting Christian religion in Roman Antiquity. They discuss distinctive features of these two remarkable publications and some material aspects that illustrate the relationship between the historical study of early Christian religion, religious studies in general and New Testament studies in particular.

The Rainboy : Tulu Folk Tales /
:
The tales in this collection give a glimpse of the folk sensibilities of the Tulu people of Karnataka, and illustrate the heterogeneity of their society. They were narrated by various persons in different times and space. However, enough care has taken for including tales from actual narrators in real context. They have been chosen from different regions of Tulunādu and the people from whom the stories were collected by the fieldworkers belonged to different castes, age groups and genders. The collection includes male and women centered tales, tales about families, fate, gods, demons, and animals. They unveil various kinds of actors, human and non-human, myriad situations and predicaments. The Rainboy also offers a variety of pictures and is drawn in different colours. They are unique to the society which narrated or heard them. As in all folktales, they vary from the real to the fanciful, of this world to the world beyond, of men and women of all kinds to animals and birds of all kinds, about the experience that we have had to the experience that we wish to have. As A.K. Ramanujan once said - 'Read these tales and don't forget to pass them on. You never know what might happen'. A delightful and essential collection for anyone interested in Tulu folklore.
