Hellworld: The Human Species and the Planetary Factory /
:
Hellworld examines the megastructures of global capitalism, asking how revolutionary subjectivity might emerge within and against capital's domesticating force. Central to this inquiry is the planetary factory: the global value chains connecting disparate industrial territories, the rise of China, the fragmentation of global trade, and, above all, the simultaneous deagrarianisation and deindustrialisation of labor. These structural shifts are linked to subjective forces, exploring how social divisions shape resistance. Through an analysis of uprisings in Hong Kong, Thailand, Sudan, and beyond, Hellworld considers whether this system-inescapable as it seems-can, perhaps, be destroyed.

Pliny the Elder themes and contexts /
:
Pliny's Naturalis Historia - a brilliant and sophisticated encyclopaedia of the scientific, artistic, philosophical, botanical and zoological riches of the ancient world - has had a long career in the footnotes of historical studies. This is a phenomenon born of the sense that the work was there to consult, or to 'use', as a resource to aid investigation of specific technical issues or passages, of Quellenforschung, or of delimited topic areas. The contributors to the present volume both represent and join a new generation of critics who have begun to try to 'read' this monumental text, and - by examining the dominant motifs which give shape and order to the work - to construct frameworks within which we may understand and interpret Pliny's overarching agenda.

The Arabic Version of Aristotle's Historia Animalium, Book I-X of Kitāb al-Hayawān.
:
Aristotle's Historia Animalium is one of the most famous and influential zoological works that was ever written. It was translated into Arabic in the 9th century CE together with Aristotle's other zoological works, On the Generation of Animals and On the Parts of Animals . As a result, the influence of Aristotelian zoology is widely traceable in classical Arabic literary culture and thought. The Arabic translation found its way into Europe through the 13th-century Latin translation by Michael Scotus, which was extensively used by medieval European scholars. A critical edition of the Arabic Historia Animalium has long been awaited, and Lourus Filius's edition, based on all extant Arabic MSS, as well as on Scotus's Latin translation, can rightly be seen as a scholarly landmark.
