Two thousand years in Dendi, northern Benin : archaeology, history and memory /
:
In Two Thousand Years in Dendi, Northern Benin an international team examines a little-known part of the Niger River valley, West Africa, over the longue durée. This area, known as Dendi, has often been portrayed as the crossroads of major West African medieval empires but this understanding has been based on a small number of very patchy historical sources. Working from the ground up, from the archaeological sites, standing remains, oral traditions and craft industries of Dendi, Haour and her team offer the first in-depth account of the area. Contributors are: Paul Adderley, Mardjoua Barpougouni, Victor Brunfaut, Louis Champion, Annalisa Christie, Barbara Eichhorn, Anne Filippini, Dorian Fuller, Olivier Gosselain, David Kay, Nadia Khalaf, Nestor Labiyi, Raoul Laibi, Richard Lee, Veerle Linseele, Alexandre Livingstone Smith, Carlos Magnavita, Sonja Magnavita, Didier N'Dah, Nicolas Nikis, Sam Nixon, Franck N'Po Takpara, Jean-François Pinet, Ronika Power, Caroline Robion-Brunner, Lucie Smolderen, Abubakar Sule Sani, Romuald Tchibozo, Jennifer Wexler, Wim Wouters.

Archaeology on the Apulian-Lucanian border /
:
The broad valley of the Bradano river and its tributary, the Basentello, separates the Apennine mountains in Lucania from the limestone plateau of the Murge in Apulia in southeast Italy. This book explains how the pattern of settlement and land use changed in the valley over the whole period from the Neolithic to the late medieval.

Aoypmata : critical essays on the archaeology of the Eastern Mediterranean in honour of E. Susan Sherratt /
:
Over her career Susan Sherratt has questioned our basic assumptions in many areas of the later prehistory of the Mediterranean and Europe, deploying a canny eye for detail, but never losing sight of the big picture. Her collected works include contributions on the relationship between Homeric epic and archaeology; the economy of ceramics, metals and other materials; the status of the `Sea Peoples' and other ethnic terminologies; routes and different forms of interaction; and the history of museums/collecting (especially relating to Sir Arthur Evans). The editors of this volume have brought together a cast of 32 scholars from nine different countries who have contributed these 26 papers to mark Sue's 65th birthday.

Zawiyet Umm el-Rakham /
:
"The site of Zawiyet Umm el-Rakham, on Egypt's Mediterranean coast 300 km west of Alexandria, was one of the largest and most important of the fortresses built by Ramesses II. It was constructed in order to protect Egypt's trade links in the Eastern Mediterranean and to guard Egypt itself from the invasions of Libyan tribesmen. The site was briefly investigated by the archaeologist Labib Habachi in the 1950s and, since 1994, has been the subject of a major archaeological project under the auspices of the University of Liverpool, led by Dr. Steven Snape"--Author's website.
