Karx Marx entwickelt, in der Tradition der idealistischen Philosophie Hegels, eine Konzeption der menschlichen Lebensform, die er in Gestalt einer philosophischen Anthropologie und einer kritischen Sozialphilosophie entfaltet. In diesem Buch werden die zentralen Konzeptionen und Theoreme der Philosophie von Karl Marx herausgearbeitet. Dabei zeigt sich, dass Marx eine pragmatistische Anerkennungstheorie in Gestalt einer Philosophie des gegenständlichen Gattungswesens und eine kritische Sozialphilosophie entwickelt. Erstere verbindet Elemente der philosophischen Anthropologie und der Religionskritik Feuerbachs zu einer perfektionistischen Ethik. Letztere liegt in Gestalt einer Kritik der politischen Ökonomie vor, in der Marx den Kapitalismus als prinzipiell scheiternde Realisierung der menschlichen Lebensform analysiert. Die philosophische Explikation des Marxschen Denkens zeigt, dass er in der Tradition der Hegelschen Philosophie eine eigenständige Konzeption entwickelt hat. See Less

Recent studies show that atheism is increasing. The reasons for this development have not as yet been examined thoroughly. Many atheists continue to be residual groups in surveys on religiosity, making it difficult to examine who they are and why they have chosen to be atheists. Moreover, they are minority groups in most countries (former Soviet bloc countries are left out of discussion); many do not identify with any organized groups of atheists or agnostics. Atheist groups and ideologies, then, represent a wide range of attitudes, behaviour and ways of acting towards religion. The lack of a clear definition of what being atheist (or an unbeliever) means today invites us to study the issue in greater depth. This volume represents a first attempt at understanding and scrutinizing atheism. Thanks to all contributors, it provides both a global perspective and specific insights into specific cases.

Rationality and the Poet is a lively account of the discussions between the young Bertolt Brecht and the Marxian Political Economist Fritz Sternberg. Set in the late Weimer Republic, these reminiscences chart the rise and fall of the friendship between the poet and the theoretician, from their initial encounters and Brecht's induction into Marxist political economy to their increasing tensions over the Soviet Union. Sternberg charted an independent position between the Second and Third Internationals and remains a largely undiscovered theorist of the period spanning the end of the First World War to the Cold War. In this volume a number of his writings have been selected from the period of his most intensive friendship with Brecht to highlight the versatile and independent socialist cast of Sternberg's mind. Here published in English for the first time, Rationality and the Poet casts a new light on the development of Brecht's politics and the relationship between society and drama that informed his art.
