Thinking Theologically about the Divine Ideas : Reexamining the Summa of Thomas Aquinas /
:
Thinking Theologically traces Aquinas's subtle grammatical and thematic engagements with the doctrine of the divine ideas throughout the Summa Theologiae. This study offers new insights into the contributions of Aquinas's doctrine to debates about eschatology, christology, providence, natural law, virtue, and creation's participation in the trinitarian life of God. It argues that Aquinas adapts the doctrine to support his pedagogical goal of guiding readers from the confession of faith to the wisdom of sacra doctrina. In turn, this demonstrates that Aquinas's reading of the divine ideas reinforces his understanding of the dynamic exchange between philosophical reasoning and theological inquiry.
:
Thinking Theologically contains new insights into the place of the divine ideas in the pedagogical design of Aquinas's Summa Theologiae. It subsequently challenges the false dichotomy between philosophy and theology in the interpretation of Aquinas's engagement with the doctrine. :

:
Kalīla wa-Dimna is one of the best-known texts of medieval Arabic literature and counts among the most illustrated works in the Islamic world. The extent of the corpus and its journey through the ages make it the ideal material for a reflection on the evolution of iconography in Islamic art. The studies gathered in this volume edited by Eloïse Brac de la Perrière, Aïda El Khiari and Annie Vernay-Nouri, showcase a wide diversity of approaches that convincingly crosses textual investigation, codicology, iconographical study, and physico-chemical analyses. They explore new tracks, either by devoting themselves to the examination of unknown or rarely studied manuscripts, or by proposing innovative readings of this extremely rich work that is Kalīla wa-Dimna. Honorific Culture at Delphi in the Hellenistic and Roman Periods /
:
The goal of this inscription-based study is to shed new light on Hellenistic and Roman Delphi by placing inscribed honours at the front and centre of the investigation. This book provides, for the first time, a comprehensive and coherent discussion of the Delphic gift-giving system, its regional interactions, and its honorific network. It employs both conventional and new scientific methods, including an analysis of quantitative trends in the epigraphic records and a Social Network Analysis (SNA) approach. The volume also addresses a broad spectrum of epigraphic topics and discusses current research questions as well as future perspectives.

The Springtime of the People: The Athenian Ephebeia and Citizen Training from Lykourgos to Augustus /
:
In The Springtime of the People: The Athenian Ephebeia and Citizen Training from Lykourgos to Augustus Thomas R. Henderson provides a new history of the Athenian ephebeia, a system of military, athletic, and moral instruction for new Athenian citizens. Characterized as a system of hoplite training with roots in ancient initiation rituals, the institution appears here as a later Lykourgan creation with the aim of reinvigorating Athenian civic culture. This book also presents a re-evaluation of the Hellenistic phase of the ephebeia, which has been commonly regarded as an institution in decline. Utilizing new epigraphic material, the author demonstrates that, in addition to rigorous military training, the ephebeia remained an important institution and played a vital and vibrant part of Athenian civic life.

The Diachrony of Ditransitives in Late Modern Swedish /
:
This book presents the first major study of ditransitives in Swedish. Using a combination of well-established and innovative corpus-based methods, the book reveals considerable changes in the constructional behaviour of ditransitive verbs over the course of the last 200 years. The key finding is that the use of the so-called double object construction has decreased dramatically in terms of frequency, lexical richness and semantic range. This development is parallelled by a decisive increase in prepositional object constructions. The results are of high relevance to the ongoing debate within construction grammar on constructional productivity and on the nature of horizontal links.

Fragments of Languages : From 'Restsprachen' to Contemporary Endangered Languages /
:
The book deals with the concept of fragmentation as applied to languages and their documentation. It focuses in particular on the theoretical and methodological consequences of such a fragmentation for the linguistic analysis and interpretation of texts and, hence, for the reconstruction of languages. Furthermore, by adopting an innovative perspective, the book aims to test the application of the concept of fragmentation to languages which are not commonly included in the categories of 'Corpussprache', 'Trümmersprache', and 'Restsprache'. This is the case with diachronic or diatopic varieties - of even well-known languages - which are only attested through a limited corpus of texts as well as with endangered languages. In this latter case, not only is the documentation fragmented, but the very linguistic competence of the speakers, due to the reduction of contexts of language use, interference phenomena with majority languages, and consequent presence of semi-speakers. The Virgin and her Lover : Fragments of an Ancient Greek Novel and a Persian Epic Poem /
:
Starting from the authors' discovery that the Persian epic poem Vāmiq and ʿAdhrā by ʿUnṣurī (11th century AD) derives from the ancient Greek novel of Mētiokhos and Parthenopē, the book contains critical editions of the Greek and Persian fragments and testimonia, with English translation and comments. The exciting story of the modern recovery of the two texts is told, and the transformations of the productive theme of The ardent lover and the virgin are traced from Greek novel to Persian poem, and through later Persian and Turkish literature. Of particular importance is the authors' attempt to reconstruct the common plot and individual variations, adding a new work to the limited corpus of ancient novels and shedding new light on the genre of Persian epic poetry.

Laylī and Majnūn : Love, Madness and Mystic Longing in Niẓāmī's Epic Romance /
:
This book is the first comprehensive analysis of Nezāmī's romance Laylī and Majnūn (1188). It examines key themes such as chastity, constancy and suffering through an analysis of the main characters. Majnūn's asceticism, kingship, love-madness, poetic genius, ill-fate, and love-death are treated in separate chapters. The patriarchal society in which Laylī lives, her anxieties and dilemmas, incarceration, secret love, imposed marriage and finally her death are discussed in detail. One chapter is devoted entirely to the different ways parents raise their children and the consequences. Finally, the book gives an analysis of Nezāmī's style, the narrative structure of the romance and the symbolism of time and setting.

Essays on Nima Yushij : Animating Modernism in Persian Poetry /
:
Through several groundbreaking critical articles on the question of poetic modernity in Persian new verse, this book focuses on the life and works of Nima Yushij (1887-1960), a major modernist Iranian poet. The articles situate Nima's life firmly within the context of early 20th century Iranian history. They are framed by a brief introduction in which the various contributions are related to each other and to various trends in poetic modernism in the Persian language, and a bibliography that lists all of Nima's works and the major studies of his life and work, both in Persian and in various Western languages. The book fills a gap in the history of Persian literature that has long endured due to the resistance of such a tradition-bound culture to the modernization of its poetry.

Edicta munerum: Advertising and Promotion of Gladiatorial Games in Ancient Pompeii /
:
Edicta munerum: Advertising and Promotion of Gladiatorial Games in Ancient Pompeii delves into the intriguing realm of behind-the-scenes preparations for the gladiatorial games in ancient Pompeii, shedding light on how advertising played a pivotal role in informing and enticing the public to witness gladiators engage in life-and-death combat. By examining epigraphic evidence, the book highlights the spatial and aesthetic significance of inscriptions as ancient means of conveying information about mass events held in the local amphitheatres. This study demonstrates that the world of advertising was well-established and thriving over two millennia ago.

The Language of Othering in a Diverse Europe /
:
This book explores how language is used to create division and discrimination in diverse European societies by emphasizing differences in ethnicity, race, national identity, beliefs, or appearance. The authors analyze how public discourse-particularly in political and media narratives-shapes and reinforces an "us vs. them" mindset. They examine words and expressions that denigrate or marginalize specific groups in Polish, German, Czech, Slovak, and Croatian, and observe how certain communities are also reclaiming terms that were once hurtful. The analyses of linguistic strategies employed in the process of othering demonstrate that the concept of othering can be effectively applied to linguistic data. Scepticism and Naturalism: Hume, Wittgenstein, Strawson /
:
In this volume, a group of scholars from moral philosophy, epistemology, metaphysics, and the history of philosophy explore the idea of naturalism as it occurs in the celebrated responses to scepticism offered by David Hume, Ludwig Wittgenstein, and P.F. Strawson. Philosophers have long been puzzled by the fact that each of these figures approaches scepticism by emphasising certain general facts about human nature. There has also been a debate over how these philosophers' discussions of scepticism were shaped by their wider views on naturalism as a philosophical orientation that prioritises the natural sciences. This is the first volume to offer a comprehensive and comparative exploration of the guiding themes of scepticism and naturalism in the work of these three great figures.

Embodiment in Cross-Linguistic Studies : The 'Foot/Leg' /
:
Over the past two decades, linguistic research into embodiment has paid considerable attention to the human body and its individual parts, particularly within typological and cognitively oriented studies. This volume continues that line of inquiry with a specific focus on the lower limb. It shows that, like other major body parts, the lower limb serves as a highly productive source domain for a wide range of conceptualisations across the world's languages and cultures. More generally, the book contributes to the growing body of work at the intersection of cognition, language, and culture. It also engages with embodiment theory, which posits that human cognition and language are fundamentally grounded in sensory-motor experience. Contributors are: Kelsie Pattillo, Jaime Peña, Gema Silva, Franklin Espinoza, Marleny Rodríguez, Małgorzata Waśniewska, Rosanna Tramutoli, Izabela Will, Joseph Jaoko Ochieng, Annika Tjuka, Cristina Martins Fargetti, Carmen Lúcia Reis Rodrigues, Judit Baranyiné Kóczy, Iwona Kraska-Szlenk, Yi Tie, Yongxian Luo, and Mateus Cruz Maciel de Carvalho.

Etymologische Untersuchungen zu den tocharischen Adjektiven : Band II /
:
Wo kommt B-tocharisch ātstse ,dicht' oder A-tocharisch märtār ,kurz' her? Where does Tocharian B ātstse 'dense' or Tocharian A märtār 'short' come from? Here, you will find the answer to this question and to many other debated issues concerning the linguistic prehistory of Tocharian. This book offers an extremely detailed etymological analysis of 210 synchronically opaque Tocharian adjectives and provides plenty of novel and original explanations for several so far obscure Tocharian words. The proposed etymologies give us new insights into Tocharian phonology and morphology and help us better understand the phylogenetic relationship between Tocharian and the other Indo-European branches. At the same time, this book makes a significant contribution to an improved and up-to-date reconstruction of Proto-Indo-European.
