New Muslims in the European Context : The Experience of Scandinavian Converts /
:
This volume deals with Scandinavian converts to Islam, discussing the process of conversion as well as the converts' role in Muslim communities and in majority society. As Islam is a new phenomenon in Scandinavia, the story of the new Muslims becomes also a story of the development of Scandinavian Islamic ideas. The book examines the specific features of Scandinavian society and Islamophobia in Scandinavia. It goes on to discuss the conversion process, Muslim convert trends common in Europe as well as in Scandinavia, and provides a detailed discussion of literature read or written by converts. The discussion of the new Muslims' experiences includes a discussion of the trend towards understanding Islam according to Scandinavian values.

From the fjords to the Nile : essays in honour of Richard Holton Pierce on his 80th birthday /
:
'From the Fjords to the Nile' brings together essays by students and colleagues of Richard Holton Pierce, presented on the occasion of his 80th birthday. It covers topics on the ancient world and the Near East. Pierce is Professor Emeritus of Egyptology at the University of Bergen. Starting out as an expert in Egyptian languages, and of law in Greco-Roman Egypt, his professional interest has spanned from ancient Nubia and Coptic Egypt, to digital humanities and game theory. His contributions as scholar, teacher, supervisor and informal advisor to Norwegian studies in Egyptology, classics, archaeology, history, religion, and linguistics through more than five decades can hardly be overstated.

Brass from the past : brass made, used and traded from prehistoric times to 1800 /
:
Brass from the Past is a history of the use and production of brass, and more broadly an insight into the journey of this metal in the context of a changing and modernising world. The book follows the evolution of brass from its earliest forms around 2500 BC through to industrialised production in the eighteenth century. The story is told in the context of the people, economies, cultures, trade and technologies that have themselves defined the alloy and its spread around the world. It explores innovations, such as the distillation of zinc, that have improved the quality and ease of production. From national or religious priorities to exhaustion of raw material supplies, the themes from the past are echoed today. In the later centuries, the book shines a light on some of the more personal aspects of people, businesses and relationships that have influenced industry and its progress.

From Edessa to Urfa : the fortification of the citadel /
:
The outcome of an archaeological research project focused on a specific monumental area in the city of Urfa: its citadel. Urfa is better known to the general reader by its ancient name, Edessa. Three seasons of fieldwork were carried out (2014-2016), concentrating on the study of the evidence preserved above ground and employing the methods of stratigraphic analysis to identify the building sequence of the citadel and to characterise the various building phases. Transformation of the relative sequence into absolute chronology depended primarily on inscriptions in situ, but also on typological elements (masonry type, decorative elements, specific architectural forms). Data from the written sources also contributed relevant information regarding the development of the fortification works and the establishment of an absolute sequence.

From cave to dolmen : ritual and symbolic aspects in the prehistory between Sciacca, Sicily and the central Mediterranean /
:
This text brings together the scientific contributions of a wide panel of Sicilian and mainland Italian specialists in prehistory. Taking inspiration from a conference organised by the Soprintendenza ai Beni Culturali e Ambientali of Agrigento and by the municipal council of Sciacca in November 2011, the decision was taken to broaden and deepen some of the main themes discussed on that occasion. Therefore this book focuses on the Sciacca region and its landscape which is extraordinarily rich in natural geological phenomena and associated archaeological activity, for example the Grotta del Kronio and the numerous dolmens present nearby.
