About 280 AD C. Iulius Romanus wrote a large work on Latin grammar. Parts of this work were later incorporated in the Ars grammatica of Flavius Sosipater Charisius. Romanus' Introduction to his list of adverbs is unique because of his approach of the subject. With the help of many rhetorical means he weaves together an intricate argument, which is completely different from the usual treatments of the adverb. This unique character was never noticed previously. The first chapters of this book deal with Charisius and Romanus in general and the Introduction in particular. A new edition with translation and commentary follows, completed by a discussion of the annotations of Cauchius made about 1540 from a manuscript now lost.

Der Titel Philosophisches Denken, Einübungen zielt nicht auf eine Philosophie, die gegeben ist wie irgend ein Ding, dessen Gebrauch man erlernen kann. Wir entwerfen vielmehr Philosophie, deren Achse die gestaltbildende Seinsnatur des menschlichen Geistes ist. Wäre das morphopoietische Sein des Menschen nicht von Grund auf bildnerisch, so vermöchte der Mensch sie nicht als Philosoph künstlerisch zu erproben, indem er eine Welt in Philosophie und Kunst bildet. Hat der Mensch sich aber so als Welt zu begreifen und zu tätigen gelernt, dann ist dies keine Leistung einer zufälligen Beliebigkeit, sondern die Notwendigkeit des endlichen Geistes, die ihren währenden Ausdruck darin findet, daß der Mensch nach Ursprung und Grund seines möglichen Seins fragt, bewegt von dem Verlangen, begründet und gegründet wissen zu wollen. Dieses Wissen wird als Sprache vernehmbar, die der Mensch durch seine dialogische Weltnatur verlautbart. Es war eine überepochale Einsicht des Philosophen Platon, als er den Menschen als Philosophen begriff, der immer schon wissen will, warum er überhaupt wissen kann. Darum ist es die Wesensaufgabe des Menschen unter raumzeitlichen Bedingungen, den Ursprung seines Seins allererst in sich selbst einholen zu müssen. Der Mensch ist eh und je, wenn auch zunächst verschleiert, dennoch aus der noch ruhenden Kraft seines Geistes Philosoph, ein Philosoph auf dem Sprung zur Tat morphopoietischen Handelns in Philosophie und Kunst. Dies deutlich zu machen, ist der Sinn dieser philosophischen Einübungen.

The present volume contains essays dealing with the Second Temple Jewish traditions and documents preserved solely in their Slavonic translations. It examines these Slavonic pseudepigraphical materials in the context of their mediating role in the development of early Jewish mystical traditions from Second Temple apocalypticism to Merkabah mysticism attested in rabbinic and Hekhalot materials. The book represents the first attempt to study Slavonic pseudepigrapha collectively as a unique group of texts that share common theophanic and mediatorial imagery crucial for the development of early Jewish mysticism. The study demonstrates that mediatorial traditions of the exalted patriarchs and prophets played an important role in facilitating the transition from apocalypticism to early Jewish mysticism.
