Companion to public theology /

: Winner of the 2017 Choice Outstanding Academic Title Award Public theology has emerged in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries as theologians have increasingly entered the public square to engage complex issues. This Companion to Public Theology brings a much-needed resource to this relatively new field. The essays contained here bring a robust and relevant faith perspective to a wide range of issues as well as foundational biblical and theological perspectives which equip theologians to enter into public dialogue. Public theology has never been more needed in public discourse, whether local or global. In conversation across disciplines its contribution to the construction of just policies is apparent in this volume, as scholars examine the areas of political, social and economic spheres as well as issues of ethics and civil societies, and draw on contexts from six continents. Contributors are: Chris Baker, Andrew Bradstock, Luke Bretherton, Lisa Sowle Cahill, Letitia M. Tyconius' Book of Rules : An Ancient Invitation to Ecclesial Hermeneutics /

: "In Tyconius' Book of Rules Matthew R. Lynskey explores the church-centric interpretation of ancient biblical exegete Tyconius in his hermeneutical treatise Liber regularum. Influential within his Donatist tradition and the broader context of early North African Christianity, Tyconius wrote one of the earliest works on exegetical theory and praxis in Latin Christianity. By investigating five key concepts undergirding Tyconius's theology of church, Lynskey demonstrates how Tyconius' ecclesiology shaped his hermeneutical enterprise. Through careful readings and close analysis of Liber regularum, this study seeks to describe Tyconius' exegesis on its own terms, reflecting on notable historical, theological, formational, and missiological implications of his ecclesial exegesis as it concerns the ancient and contemporary church"--

Punt : die Suche nach dem 'Gottesland' /

: Francis Breyer's Punt. Die Suche nach dem ›Gottesland‹ covers every aspect concerning Punt, this land known only from ancient Egyptian sources. Several disciplines have contributed to the discussion on its localization: Egyptology, Nubien Studies, Botany, Zoology, Anthropology, and African Studies, among others. The various disciplines' arguments are carefully studied, especially with the history of research and the Zeitgeist in mind. For the very first time, the question is asked, which archaeological culture from the horn of Africa can be correlated to the data from the textual and iconographic sources, all of which are collected, translated and commented on. Breyer not only comprehensively reconstructs the entire organization of the Egyptian expeditions, id est participants, routes, trade goods, but also addresses the people of Punt, their cultural background and way of life.
