Pastors, partners, and paternalists : African church leaders and western missionaries in the Anglican Church in Kenya, 1850-1900 /
:
A study tracing the relationships between missionaries and African Church workers in Kenya in the years 1850-1900, as missionaries increasingly adopted imperial assumptions of Western superiority. It tells the story of the first Anglican clergy in Kenya, their wives and colleagues; their rescue from slavery, their education in India and their subsequent work in East Africa. It demonstrates their contribution to the rapid growth of the Church and of indigenous Christian communities. Yet later missionaries were not willing to accord to the Africans the position they had a right to expect. The book recounts their protest and the development of a Church order. Similar events in West Africa have been documented, but this is the first time such a pattern in East Africa has been outlined.

The Historian's Craft /
:
This seminal work by the founder of Annales School, Marc Bloch discusses history writing from many perspectives, rather than a singular method and what comprises history. The Historian's Craft covers the issues concerning what comprises history. This book also deals with the concept of time, historical observation, criticism, analysis, and causation. Citing pieces of evidence from certain history-related documents such as the Commentaries of Julius Caesar and Protocols of the Elders of Zion, he exemplifies the examples of history writing and forgeries. This book explains that the history based on judgemental aspect is something not to be done, and provides a wider explanation rather than providing in normative terms.

Pauline language and the Pastoral Epistles : a study of linguistic variation in the Corpus Paulinum /
:
In Pauline Language and the Pastoral Epistles Jermo van Nes questions the common assumption in New Testament scholarship that language variation is necessarily due to author variation. By using the so-called Pastoral Epistles (PE) as a test-case, Van Nes demonstrates by means of statistical linguistics that only one out of five of their major lexical and syntactic peculiarities differs significantly from other Pauline writings. Most of the PE's linguistic peculiarities are shown to differ considerably in the Corpus Paulinum , but modern studies in classics and linguistics suggest that factors other than author variation account equally if not better for this variation. Since all of these explanatory factors are compatible with current authorship hypotheses of the PE, Van Nes suggests to no longer use language as a criterion in debates about their authenticity.
