This collection of essays focuses on issues related to gender at the intersection of religious discourses in antiquity. To that end, an array of traditions is analyzed with the aim of more fully situating the construction and representation of gender in early Christian, Jewish and Greco-Roman argumentation. Taken as a whole, these essays contribute to the goal of displaying the wide range of options that are available for examining the interconnection of gender, rhetoric, power, and ideology, especially as they relate to identity formation in the ancient world during the early centuries of the common era. The focus on ancient conceptions of gender makes this collection particularly useful not only for biblical scholars, but also for classicists and researchers working in the field of gender studies, as well as for those interested in exploring similar issues in other religious traditions or in Western religious traditions of different time periods.

Professor Heinz Kimmerle encountered African philosophy at a time when his specialisation in the philosophy of Hegel had attained world recognition. For Hegel, African philosophy did not exist in Sub-Saharan Africa, exactly the area in which Kimmerle made his first contact with African philosophy. Hegel's philosophy was not a stranger to Sub-Saharan Africa. This was because the Western educational paradigm was imposed upon the conquered, colonized peoples during the period of colonisation. Unlike Hegel, Kimmerle took African philosophy seriously and engaged, initially, in dialogues with African philosophy. Out of the unfolding dialogues grew intercultural philosophy spearheaded by Kimmerle's penetrating, insightful and incisive critique of some of the fundamental presuppositions of Hegel's philosophy. The essays contained in this book focus on the evolution of Kimmerle's conception and meaning of intercultural philosophy. Underlying this are recognition and respect for other modes of doing philosophy as manifestations of intercultural philosophy. To deny dialogues, if you prefer, polylogue among world philosophies, is to reject the very basis of philosophy. Thus a crucial dimension of philosophy would be precluded, which can be found in this book, namely, the critical evaluation of Kimmerle's conception and meaning of intercultural philosophy.

Hauptgegenstand sind die beiden großen vierteiligen geografischen Prozessionen auf der Außenseite des Naos und im Hof des Horustempels von Edfu. Da die Texte jedoch nicht an allen Stellen perfekt erhalten sind und Parallelen in anderen Tempeln existieren, wurden diese in die Untersuchung miteinbezogen. Die Hauptversionen in Edfu sind fotografisch im beiliegenden Tafelband dokumentiert.0Die Darstellung folgt der Reihenfolge der 22 oberägyptischen und 20 oberägyptischen Gaue (Verwaltungsbezirke) mit ihren jeweils vier Gabenträger, die nacheinander den Gau, den Kanal, das Fruchtland und das Sumpfgebiet repräsentieren. Die Beischriften zu jedem Gabenträger bestehen aus einer Übergabeformel, in der das jeweilige Toponym mit seinen Charakteristika genannt wird, sowie einer Identifikationsformel, bei der sich der Gott des Tempels, in dem sich die entsprechende Prozession befindet (z.B. Horus von Edfu) mit den lokalen Göttern der einzelnen Kultorte identifiziert. Until the Renaissance the centrality of Roman tragedy in Western society and culture was unchallenged. Studies on Roman Republican tragedy and on Imperial Roman tragedy by the contributors have been directing the gaze of scholarship back to Roman tragedy.
