In 2008 several heritage sites in Botswana were opened for tourism in addition to the Tsodilo World Heritage Site. Insufficient research was undertaken to understand how local communities and local cultures respond to these ventures. The Iron Age copper smelting site situated near the Cypriot village Agia Varvara is of particular importance among the ancient copper processing places in the Near East because it has revealed spatial as well as technological aspects of copper production in a hitherto rarely-seen depth of detail. This title presents the results of a comprehensive post-excavation analysis of the stratigraphy (part I), also of the geology, metallurgical materials (furnaces, tuyeres), finds (pottery, furnace lining, stone tools), as well as a synthesis of the copper smelting technology at Agia Varvara-Almyras (part II). Before they were destroyed in 2017, the remains of Samut North were exceptionally well preserved and their exploration represented a unique opportunity to fully study a mining facility at the height of gold mining in Egypt. It was also a chance to compare the evidence of the archaeological remains with the descriptions of the ancient mines left by Agatharchides of Cnidus, who lived in the 2nd century BC. This paper introduces the main results of the excavation at the site of Yughbī during the last season of fieldwork of The Crowded
Desert Project in the north-west of Qatar between March and April 2018. While the area of Yughbī was occupied for a long period
of time, this paper focuses on a small number of stone buildings that dated mainly to the Umayyad period (AD 661–750), but also
with reference to a more extended occupation that may be dated as early as the late Sasanian-Rāshidūn caliphate period (AD
498–661), and perhaps even earlier, to the early ‘Abbāsid period (c. AD 750–900). The Umayyad phase includes stone buildings
that served as a permanent or semi-permanent base for a nomadic group in the process of sedentarization, or recently settled at
the site. The finds of pottery, glass, metals, and other materials indicate that the community living at the site was well integrated
within a wider landscape that included economic interests in the desert and the sea, and even long-distance connections.

The Tomb of the Priests of Amun, also known as Bab el-Gasus, was uncovered in 1891 at Deir el-Bahari (Thebes). The site proved to be the largest undisturbed tomb ever found in Egypt, as there were found the intact burials of 153 individuals that lived under the 21st Dynasty (ca. 1069-945 BC). This outstanding find was subsequently divided in lots of antiquities and dispersed by 17 nations. This volume presents the first comprehensive publication of the Italian Lot, kept in the Egyptian Museum of Florence.
