In recent years, there has been an increased interest in the study of the concept of time in the Ottoman Empire. Many existing studies focused on the technical aspects, e.g. the measure of time, and the instruments to do this (like clepsydras, water clocks, hourglasses, and sundials found on the facades of mosques and medreses). Other aspects were neglected, like the various Ottoman experiments with time and the Ottomans' conceptions of time. This collective volume addresses several of these forgotten aspects of the political, social and cultural modalities of time in the Ottoman Empire.

The volume The Politics of Honour in the Greek Cities of the Roman Empire , co-edited by Anna Heller and Onno van Nijf, studies the public honours that Greek cities bestowed upon their own citizens and foreign dignitaries and benefactors. These included civic praise, crowns, proedria , public funerals, honorific statues and monuments. The authors discuss the development of this honorific system, and in particular the epigraphic texts and the monuments through which it is accessible. The focus is on the Imperial period (1st-3rd centuries AD). The papers investigate the forms of honour, the procedures and formulae of local practices, as well as the changes in local honorific habits that resulted from the integration of the Greek cities in the Roman Empire.

"Cet ouvrage constitue la synthèse de la recherche sur la statuaire royale de la XIXe dynastie dont le catalogue a paru en ligne en 2018. Le présent volume regroupe les résultats des observations sur les statues réparties par types. Un premier chapitre expose le nombre de statues par règne et la fréquence des types auxquels elles correspondent, y compris les statues remployées sous la XIXe dynastie et celles qui lui sont attribuées. Les chapitres suivants condensent l'évolution des types de statues en suivant celle de leurs costumes, coiffures et attributs, leur fréquence dans les groupes statuaires, mais aussi des représentations en deux dimensions de ces statues et leurs parallèles dans des scènes rituelles. L'examen mené permet d'établir la place qu'occupe chaque type de statue dans un temple et donne lieu à un essai d'interprétation de sa fonction dans l'ensemble du mobilier du temple. Il se poursuit par une synthèse des provenances, dimensions, matériaux et techniques, une autre consacrée à l'accoutrement et, enfin, une présentation récapitulative du style et de l'iconographie, assortie de notices sur les critères de datation. This publication is a synthesis of research on the royal statuarv of the Nineteenth Dynasty. It accompanies the catalogue of these statues that appeared on line in 2019.The present volume contains the results of observations on the royal statues, which are presented by type. The first chapter presents the statues by reign and by the types of statues within each reign, including statues reused by kings of the Nineteenth Dynasty as well as ones attributed to them.The succeeding chapters follow the evolution of statue types alongside the development of costume, coiffure and attributes. The frequency of these features in group statues and in two dimensional representations as well as their parallels in ritual scenes are also studied. The investigation defines the position of each type of statue in the temple and ends with an attempt to understand the rote of each statue type within the temple furniture. The next chapters deal with provenances, dimensions, materials, and techniques of the statues, followed by those on the accessories, and finally the style and the iconography are discussed, accompanied by comments on dating criteria. Prof. Dr. Hans-Martin Schenke, internationally renowned New Testament scholar and pioneer researcher in Gnosticism as it became brilliantly illuminated by the publication of the Nag Hammadi Codices, organized a small group of students and colleagues in "East Berlin" in the early 1970s to investigate the difficult new primary sources from the "Coptic Gnostic Library" discovered in Upper Egypt in 1945. Témoignages de ses travaux, mais aussi de son regard attentif sur la vie quotidienne en Égypte, Étienne Drioton a laissé une importante collection de clichés réalisés entre 1924 et 1952, dont beaucoup sont encore inédits. Cet ouvrage vous propose de lui emboîter le pas au fil du Nil. Tout d'abord l'égyptologue nous entraîne vers les sites archéologiques de Haute Égypte : Médamoud et Tôd, où il travaille entre 1925 et 1936, puis Karnak, Louqsor et Deir el-Médineh. À côté de la réalisation d'une multitude de clichés de sites et de fouilles, il s'intéresse aussi à la réalité quotidienne des habitants de ces contrées. Il entre dans les villages, réalise des portraits de personnages typiques, rencontre les fellahs, fixe par l'image les travaux des champs. En juin 1936, alors qu'il est Directeur général du Service des antiquités au Caire, le pays se présente comme un vaste chantier. Ici on fouille, là on reconstitue un monument. Quel logos opposer à la puissante évidence du plaisir, surtout lorsque ceux qui la proclament haut et fort refusent de jouer le jeu du dialogue ? Comment dépasser l'opposition si tenace entre plaisir et raison ? Le plaisir à l'épreuve de la pensée explore le lien complexe tissé par Platon entre plaisir et pensée dans le Protagoras , le Gorgias et le Philèbe , trois dialogues où Socrate essaie par tous les moyens d'amener ses interlocuteurs à formuler dans un discours argumenté ce qui à leurs yeux ne fait que s'éprouver : la positivité du plaisir.
