Mary Magdalene, Iconographic Studies from the Middle Ages to the Baroque examines the iconographic inventions in Magdalene imagery and the contextual factors that shaped her representation in visual art from the fourteenth to the seventeenth centuries. Unique to other saints in the medieval lexicon, images of Mary Magdalene were altered over time to satisfy the changing needs of her patrons as well as her audience. By shedding light on the relationship between the Magdalene and her patrons, both corporate and private, as well as the religious institutions and regions where her imagery is found, this anthology reveals the flexibility of the Magdalene's character in art and, in essence, the reinvention of her iconography from one generation to the next.

This volume provides an overview on the history of the Muslim Brotherhood and the ways its heritage is appropriated by its European members today. They define themselves as the "community of the middle way", in the centre of Islamic orthodoxy, proposing an ethos and an ideology. However their heritage is composed of many different intellectual strata and these inputs are in tension. The current movement is both powerful and fragile as certain fundamental principles remain respected while many other themes are currently being cautiously questioned. By analysing private interviews and public discourse, this book fills in an important gap in scholarly research. No other in-depth study exists about this little known and reserved but important reference for European Muslims.

This study examines Middle-Late Bronze Age (c. 1750-600 BC) domestic settlement patterns in Ireland. The results reveal a distinct rise in the visibility, and a rapid adaption, of domestic architecture, which seems to have occurred earlier in Ireland than elsewhere in western and northern Europe.

12,000 years ago the area that now forms the southern North Sea was dry land: a vast plain populated by Mesolithic hunter-gatherers. By 5500 BC the entire area had disappeared beneath the sea as a consequence of rising sea levels. Until now, this unique landscape remained hidden from view and almost entirely unknown. The North Sea Palaeolandscape Project, funded by the Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund, have mapped 23,000 km2 of this 'lost world' using seismic data collected for mineral exploration. 'Mapping Doggerland' demonstrates that the North Sea covers one of the largest and best preserved prehistoric landscapes in Europe.

Cet ouvrage étudie la totalité des objets d'or, découverts sur le site de Mari de 1933 à 2006. La ville de Mari, fondée au début du IIIe millénaire (Ville I) a connu une grande activité artisanale et l'orfèvrerie s'illustre par des découvertes techniques d'avenir. Après 2500, les souverains de la Ville II favorisent une production de pièces de grande qualité. La Ville III prend fin avec la dynastie amorrite, dont les archives étudiées ici rendent compte de la multiplicité des ateliers. Les cimetières médio-assyriens installés sur le site ont livré ensuite de très nombreux objets, peut-être fabriqués sur place. Sur le Moyen Euphrate, Mari apparaît donc comme une des capitales du travail de l'or faisant pendant à Sumer sans en dépendre, comme on l'avait prétendu. Son orfèvrerie nous éclaire aussi sur la société, la religion et les pratiques funéraires.

As a first order witness of the Greek New Testament, Family 13 has a long history in the field of textual criticism. Nearly seventy years after Kirsopp and Silva Lake's publication, La Famille 13 dans l'évangile de Marc offers an enlarged, wholly up-to-date and thoroughly revised study of the text of the Gospel of Mark for the witnesses considered as family members by Didier Lafleur. His extensive survey includes the history of the discovery of the manuscripts, their codicological description and new research on the text. The most part of the book is devoted to the edition of minuscule 788 (Athens, Nat. Lib. 74), considered by the author as the nearest member to the archetype of the group ( f ¹³ ). Based on quite new collations for the all extant manuscripts, the edition provides a positive apparatus. Considérée comme témoin de premier ordre du Nouveau Testament grec, la Famille 13 s'enracine profondément dans l'histoire de la critique. Soixante-dix ans après la publication de Kirsopp et Silva Lake, La Famille 13 dans l'évangile de Marc offre un panorama exhaustif sur le texte de cet évangile pour les témoins considérés par Didier Lafleur comme membres de ce groupe ( f ¹³ ).
