Carlo Passaglia on Church and Virgin : New Perspectives in Systematic Theology in Light of Nineteenth Century Catholic Renewal /
:
In Carlo Passaglia on Church and Virgin, Valfredo Maria Rossi traces the significant contribution that Carlo Passaglia (1812-1887) has made to Catholic theology, paying particular attention to his Trinitarian ecclesiology and Mariology. Though highly neglected due to his troubled life, Passaglia is one of the most brilliant theologians of the nineteenth century. Commonly - and yet erroneously - ascribed to the Neo-Scholastic movement, he anticipates and so emerges as a forerunner of several themes which will be developed during the Second Vatican Council. In light of Passaglia's two most relevant theological works ( De Ecclesia Christi and De Immaculato Deiparae semper Virginis Conceptu ), Rossi convincingly shows the originality of Passaglia's theology, based on a patristic ressourcement highlighting its historical salvific and sacramental dimension.

Proklos : Methode, Seelenlehre, Metaphysik : Akten der Konferenz in Jena AM 18.-20. September 2003 /
:
This volume deals with the philosophy of Proclus, the most influential philosopher of the Neoplatonic school of Athens. Its 17 essays present the major themes of Proclus' work. The first part discusses the method of Proclus' philosophy, concentrating on his theory of language and his interpretation of Plato. The second part focusses on his theory of the soul, especially of the human soul and its various functions. The third part covers Proclus' metaphysics, his theory of ideas and his famous scheme of duration, procession and reversion. Thus, the volume contributes to the renewed interest in Neoplatonism. For the specialists, it contains some new insights into Proclus' thought. For the non-specialist, the volume can be used as introductory text to the main themes of Proclean philosophy.

L'artisanat de l'os à l'époque Gallo-Romaine : de l'ostéologie à l'archéologie expérimentale /
:
The transfer, in 1981, of the town museum collections in Sens (Yonne) to the old Archbishop's palace required great discretion and an underground passage was planned between the two buildings. Preventive archaeological excavations unearthed 22 Gallo-Roman bone combs, as well as a further 17 pieces when the excavation area was expanded. This exceptional concentration of bone artefacts incited the author to start on an experimental search at a time when bone artefacts were not finding much interest among specialists. However, it was extremely adventurous to piece together a bone-worker production line and create a never before archaeologically discovered appliance used in Roman times. Obviously, the first reproductions have been directed towards combs. This title presents an analysis of the 22 Gallo-Roman bone combs.

Metaphor and ideology : liber antiquitatum biblicarum and literary methods through a cognitive lens /
:
Contemporary scholars have sharply disagreed over the importance of the loquacious women of Liber Antiquitatum Biblicarum . Using the methods of contemporary Cognitive Linguistics, Ideology and Metaphor develops a systematic, replicable reading of the text and its characters, showing how Pseudo-Philo uses these women's stories to articulate the text's theology and ideology. The analysis also explores how the author redefines the term «mother» in order to sanction the female authority to interpret and instruct. The conceptual blends that compose the text's distinctive and sometimes dissonant metaphors are analyzed in detail. This monograph also explores how a re-written Bible establishes its authority and awards authority to specific characters and how rhetorical and narrative methodologies fit within cognitive linguistics.
