A new interpretation of Molière's work, drawn from contemporary archival sources, showing for the first time how he shaped an independent career between the opposing pressures of aristocratic patrons and mercantile publishers. Exploiting the alternate roles of actor and courtier, he progressed from social success to artistic achievement but, to the dissatisfaction of his royal patrons, Molière put the priorities of his own authorial status before the notion of service at Court; important new bibliographical material illustrates his long war in defence of his authorial rights against a cartel of unscrupulous publishers. The six chapters of this absorbing study challenge the current orthodoxy of a programmatic ideology in Molière's work. Raising basic questions about the writer's perception of her/himself, and about the French cult of classicism, this work will interest all specialists of seventeenth-century French theatre and social history. "Bonaparte's short-lived 1798 campaign in Egypt, new possibilities of travel, and improvements in printing technology in nineteenth-century France and Britain, a new publishing business dedicated to the production of albums and travel accounts picturing Muslim Egypt and Islamic architecture emerged to cater to a growing European fascination. Visualizing Egypt is about these nineteenth-century French and British illustrated publications filled with images brought from travel to Egypt and then published and promulgated to the Western audience. It analyzes the context and process of production of these books, from their conceptualization to the finished product and its afterlife, from marketing to the sales of these books, and from circulation to their reception by the nineteenth-century audience. The Sauveterrian represents one of the main cultural aspects of the European Early Mesolithic. In this work, its presumed uniformity - mostly based on typological grounds - is questioned with the purpose of assessing and verifying the relationships existing between the two central areas of diffusion of this complex: southern France and northern Italy. A broad technological approach, combining complementary analytical techniques, was applied to the study of a series of French and Italian lithic assemblages. More specifically, these were investigated with the aim of reconstructing the entire reduction sequences, from the procurement of lithic raw materials to the use and discard of tools.

Islamic studies are for a large part based on texts that were originally transmitted in manuscript. For many years, Francis Richard (b. 1948) was responsible for the Persian manuscripts at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France.
