Classification of a Funerary Model: The Rendering of Accounts Theme /

The three-dimensional funerary models housed in burial chambers of the late Old Kingdom to the end of the Middle Kingdom display a number of similarities with the so-called scenes of daily life on tomb-chapel walls. A comparison of the two media can help to classify otherwise unidentifiable artworks. One such model, housed in the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon, displays many parallels with scenes depicting the theme of the rendering of accounts. Mit seiner bahnbrechenden preisgekrönten Kritik des Wachstumsmodells plädiert Benjamin Ziemer für einen Paradigmenwechsel in der alttestamentlichen Literaturgeschichte. Er untersucht in detaillierten Einzelstudien einen repräsentativen Katalog empirischer Beispiele für Redaktion, vom Gilgamesch-Epos über das ägyptische Totenbuch bis hin zu biblischen Büchern (Chronik, Jeremia, Daniel, Esther) und Qumranschriften (Tempelrolle, Sektenregel). He examines a representative list of empirical examples of editorial processes, including the Gilgamesh Epic, the Book of the Dead, books of the Bible and Dead Sea Scrolls. He shows that redactors who can be identified by external evidence never confined themselves to adding new material. Rather, they simultaneously adjusted or duplicated parts of the text, incorporated material from elsewhere or shortened their source texts. Until now, the bulk of redaction critical studies in Europe adhere to the presupposition of textual or literary ℗»growth℗± - assuming that multiple previous layers are to be found intact in the final texts. With Ziemer's study, this model of growth is no longer tenable.

Les termes « messie » et « messianisme » recouvrent aujourd'hui une désignation exagérément large au regard de leur sens initial dans le judaïsme et le christianisme. Ils sont utilisés dans des contextes qui empruntent souvent inconsciemment aux modèles rhétoriques à l'oeuvre dans le judaïsme ancien et dans le christianisme primitif. Le livre s'intéresse à ces modèles qui caractérisent l'histoire intellectuelle du premier messianisme juif. Tout d'abord, l'émergence du messianisme est examinée à travers les modèles de divinisation du roi dans le Proche-Orient ancien (Égypte, Mésopotamie, culture cananéenne), et à travers l'évolution de l'idéologie royale dans l'Israël ancien. D'autre part, les premiers textes chrétiens ont mis en avant la fusion des attentes messianiques en une seule figure de messie (Jésus-Christ), mais la pluralité des figures messianiques semble prévaloir dans la littérature juive ancienne. ____________________________________ The words 'messiah' and 'messianism' are presently used in a too wide significance in comparison with their original meaning in Judaism and Christianity. Nevertheless, they often borrow unconsciously from rhetorical models at work in Ancient Judaism and Christianity. The book constitutes a series of studies on these models which characterize the intellectual history of the first Jewish messianism. Firstly, the birth of messianism is studied across the divinization of kings in Ancient Near East (Egypt, Mesopotamia, Canaanite culture) and secondly, the change of royal ideology in Ancient Israel to messianism. Thirdly, the first Christian texts have promoted the merging of messianic expectations in one messianic figure (Jesus-Christ), but the plurality of messiahs seem to prevail in early Jewish literature.

Die ironisch-spielerische Neuverwendung von populären Gattungen und tradierten Darstellungsweisen stellt ein bemerkenswertes Phänomen heutiger Literatur dar. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert diese Form von Intertextualität in Prosawerken von Peter Handke und Botho Strauß und führt damit differente Spielarten solcher Gattungs-Transformation vor. Beide Autoren - die hier erstmals unter diesem erzähltechnischen Aspekt zusammengebracht werden - verwenden zur Konstruktion ihrer Texte 'vorgefertigte' Erzählmodelle: den Kriminalroman und den romantischen Roman. Die Untersuchung zeigt, wie Handke und Strauß deren Bauelemente neuartig einsetzen und so innovative Erzählformen schaffen. Wie in Handkes Krimi-Transformationen die Rätsel unaufgeklärt bleiben und sich das 'looking for clues' mit der Thematik von Zeichendeutung verbindet, wird in den Analysen dargelegt. In Der Hausierer, Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter und Der kurze Brief zum langen Abschied zeigt sich dabei eine Entwicklungslinie. Darüber hinaus stellt sich Die Stunde der wahren Empfindung durch den Befund einer Transgression des Krimi-Modells als Scharnierwerk im Oeuvre dar. Die Erarbeitung der vielfältigen Romantik-Bezüge in Strauß' Der junge Mann enthüllt, wie die prätextuellen Themen und Motive mit ironischer Distanz verwendet werden. Romantische Reflexionsstrukturen werden radikalisiert und in andere Funktionszusammenhänge gestellt. Abschließend werden die nachgewiesenen intertextuellen Konstruktionsprinzipien im Kontext postmoderner Literatur betrachtet.

Das Werk enthält einen Sprachatlas des Zazaki, einer nordwestiranischen Sprache. Die Arbeit dokumentiert die sprachgeographischen Verhältnisse einer bislang wenig erforschten Region. Grundlage bilden eigene Erhebungen mit einem Fragebuch in 65 Orten über das ganze Gebiet verteilt. Dieses Fragebuch orientiert sich an den vorwiegend bäuerlichen Verhältnissen einer Kultur, die bald verschwunden sein wird. Das Zazaki wird nach dem Vorbild von Sprachatlanten europäischer Sprachen flächendeckend dokumentiert und in 280 Karten dargestellt. Die fassen 850 Einzelkarten zusammen. Die Arbeit besteht aus zwei Teilen: einem Theorieteil mit Einleitung und Kartenkommentaren sowie einem Kartenteil. Die ersten beiden Bände bieten einen Einblick in das Material. Es handelt sich um die erste systematische Grundlagenforschung zur Sprachgeographie des Zazaki. Die Arbeit setzt neue Maßstäbe in der Iranistik. Die ersten beiden Bände behandeln die Phonologie. Weitere sechs Bände werden folgen. This work presents a linguistic atlas of Zazaki, a northwestern Iranian language. It documents the linguistic geography of a region that has so far been little studied. The research is based on original fieldwork conducted with a questionnaire in 65 locations across the entire area. This questionnaire is oriented towards the predominantly rural conditions of a culture that is on the verge of disappearing. Zazaki is comprehensively documented following the model of linguistic atlases of European languages and is presented in 280 maps, which summarize 850 individual maps. The work is divided into two parts: a theoretical section with an introduction and map commentaries, and a map section. The first two volumes provide insight into the material. This is the first systematic foundational research on the linguistic geography of Zazaki. The study sets new standards in Iranian studies. The first two volumes focus on phonology. Six additional volumes will follow.

"In the cemetery of the family of King Pepy I of the 6th Dynasty (c. 2330-2280), the French-Swiss archaelogical Mission of Saqqâra (MafS) has uncovered eight pyramidal complexes of queens from the end of the Old Kingdom. This publication presents a study and a catalog of some of the material delivered by these tombs, including stone vessels - usually fragmentary and sometimes inscribed, such as that of the queen mother Ankhnespepy II, series of models - dummy vases with symbolic function, containers for food offerings, as well as other items of funeral equipment. The stones encountered are mainly calcite (or travertine, or Egyptian alabaster), gneiss, greywacke, limestone. A wide variety of shapes appears, including large inscribed jars, refined cups, shapes well attested in the 6th dynasty and vases much older than the 6th dynasty. The models reveal a permanence of the shapes compared to those of the previous periods, and it is in the material of the queens of Pepy I that the cases of food offerings of real size, some in calcite, appear for the first time in a royal equipment"--Page [4] of cover.

This volume examines Fichte's notion of the image in the systematic domains of ethics, philosophy of history, political philosophy, philosophy of language, aesthetics, and the philosophy of religion. Several contributions investigate from various viewpoints the central feature of Fichte's late philosophy that, in terms of image theory, human freedom is understood as the ability to understand oneself as the image of an absolute that transcends all appearances. These investigations reveal that Fichte's image theory underlies his late ethics, state theory, and educational conception and thus characterizes the peculiar meaning in which Fichte's late philosophy is still to be understood as an expression of an Enlightenment project that goes beyond mere theory. This volume also contains the three papers awarded with the "Fichte Prize for Young Researchers" in 2018. Der vorliegende Band untersucht Fichtes bildtheoretisches Denken von der Theorie der Einbildungskraft bis in die systematischen Bereiche der Ethik, der Geschichtsphilosophie, der politischen Philosophie, der Sprachphilosophie, der Kunsttheorie und der Religionsphilosophie. Dass die Freiheit des Menschen bildtheoretisch aus der in seinem Selbstbewusstsein angelegten Fähigkeit zu verstehen ist, sich als Bild eines alle Erscheinungen transzendierenden Absoluten zu verstehen, ist ein zentraler Gedanke der Spätphilosophie Fichtes, der in mehreren Beiträgen unter verschiedenen Fragestellungen in den Blick genommen und diskutiert wird. The Maccabean Martyrs, Jewish heroes from the era of the persecution of Antiochus IV Epiphanes, were incorporated into the IVth century Christian martyrology. Two Church Fathers, Gregory Nazianzen and John Chrysostom wrote panegyrics in their honour, which are studied and translated in this book. The first part shows how, since the beginning, the Church referred to these martyrs as biblical examples known through 2 and 4 Maccabees. The second part describes, through the eulogies of Gregory and John, the circumstances surrounding the creation of the Christian Feast. The third part analyzes the preaching built around the story of the Maccabean martyrs, where, following the 4 M model, Eleazar, the seven brothers and their mother are established as examples of virtue and asceticism for the edification of all Christians. The book investigates an original aspect of the cult of martyrs : the christianisation of jewish martyrs killed defending the Law, and sheds light on the sometimes contradictory preaching choices of Gregory and John to respond to the jewish roots of this cult. *** Les martyrs Maccabées, héros juifs de la persécution d'Antiochus IV Epiphane, furent intégrés dans le martyrologe chrétien au IVè siècle. In recent years, storage has come to the fore as a central aspect of ancient economies. However studies have hitherto focused on urban and military storage. Although archaeological excavations of rural granaries are numerous, their evidence has yet to be fully taken into account. Such is the ambition of Rural Granaries in Northern Gaul (Sixth Century BCE - Fourth Century CE) . Focusing on northern Gaul, this volume starts by discussing at length the possibility of quantifying storage capacities and, through them, agrarian production. Building on this first part, the second half of the book sketches the evolution of rural storage in Gaul from the Iron Age to Late Antiquity, setting firmly archaeological evidence in the historical context of the Roman Empire.

It considers the periodization of times and the idea of a revelation being carried out from one period to another; the irruption of the fixed Time and the concomitant representation of a recovery of the times; and the expectation of the last times. In particular, the texts from Qumran, the New Testament, and hellenistic Jewish literature are investigated, but older and more recent texts are taken into account as well.

Indicative here is the cognition that hospitality has to do with a factor which is proven in almost all religions and cultures of the world. Hospitality is primarily an existential encounter and as such it brings also the experience of difference in socio-religious traditions and in intercultural relations. Gegenwärtig wird in der Weltöffentlichkeit mit zunehmender Dringlichkeit die Forderung nach einem Dialog der Kulturen und der Religionen erhoben. Vor diesem Hintergrund stellt sich die Frage nach tragfähigen Konzepten, welche die Begegnung der Religionen und Kulturen der Welt gestalten helfen. Wegweisend hierfür ist die Erkenntnis, dass es sich bei der Gastfreundschaft um eine Gegebenheit handelt, welche in nahezu allen Religionen und Kulturen der Welt belegt ist.
