Menschen streben von Natur aus nach Verstehen - Hermeneutik ist die Lehre vom Verstehen. So leicht, könnte man meinen, lasse sich die Frage nach der bleibenden Relevanz und Stellung der Hermeneutik im Kanon der Wissenschaften beantworten. Doch heute kommt kaum eine Publikation, die das Stichwort "Hermeneutik" im Titel trägt, ohne die Frage aus, wie es mit der Hermeneutik weitergeht. Ihr scheint nicht mehr dieselbe Schlüsselrolle zuzukommen wie in vergangenen Zeiten. Deshalb sind die Beiträge des vorliegenden Bandes, die eine Tagung aus Anlass des 60. Geburtstags des Zürcher Instituts für Hermeneutik und Religionsphilosophie dokumentieren, der Frage "wie weiter?" gewidmet. Sie unternehmen in allgemeinen und disziplinären Perspektiven eine aktuelle Klärung von Konstitution und Ausrichtung der Hermeneutik als Kunstlehre und Theorie des Verstehens. See Less

East and West in the Roman Empire of the Fourth Century examines the (dis)unity of the Roman Empire in the fourth century from different angles, in order to offer a broad perspective on the topic and avoid an overvaluation of the political division of the empire in 395. After a methodological key-paper on the concepts of unity, the other contributors elaborate on these notions from various geo-political perspectives: the role of the army and taxation, geographical perspectives, the unity of the Church and the perception of the divisio regni of 364. Four case-studies follow, illuminating the role of concordia apostolorum , antique sports, eunuchs and the poet Prudentius on the late antique view of the Empire. Despite developments to the contrary, it appears that the Roman Empire remained (to be viewed as) a unity in all strata of society.

Ein hyperbolischer Seinsbegriff eröffnet einen anderen Blick auf historische wie systematische Fragen. Er erlaubt es anzugeben, was die vielen, oft sehr unterschiedlichen Ansätze der Metaphysikgeschichte umtreibt. Er zeigt aber auch, wie sich metaphysisches Denken fortsetzen lässt. Der Schlüssel zu beidem ist eine hyperbolische Ontologie, die vom inneren Überschuss der Wirklichkeit handelt.

Durch die jahrzehntelange Editionsarbeit der Fichte-Gesamtausgabe der Bayerischen Akademie der Wissenschaften ist nun das gesamte Oeuvre Fichtes der Forschung zugänglich. Von besonderem Interesse sind dabei die Jahre 1810-1814, die nicht zuletzt aufgrund der lückenhaften Quellenlage bisher kaum als eigenständige Periode untersucht worden sind. Dabei verdienen sie größte Beachtung, nicht bloß weil sie Fichtes letzte Untersuchungen zur Transzendentalphilosophie beinhalten, sondern weil Fichte hier erstmals wieder seit Jena dauerhaft akademisch tätig ist - als Professor an der neu gegründeten Berliner Universität. Dieser Umstand führt zu einer ungeheuren Fülle an ausgearbeiteten Texten, die das hochspekulative Anliegen neu auf eine akademische Hörerschaft ausrichten und uns heute ermöglichen, intensiv und umfassend den letzten Stand Fichtescher Transzendentalphilosophie aus erster Hand zu studieren. Bewegt von der Lebensfrage Fichtes nach dem Wesen endlicher Freiheit, will die vorliegende Untersuchung erstmalig eine diesbezügliche Gesamtauswertung dieser Spättexte liefern. Dabei stößt sie auf die tragische Konkurrenz von Selbst und Bild; ein Entweder-Oder, an dessen Ende das Selbst das zu Vernichtende ist. This book makes visible an important but largely neglected aspect of Christian missions: its transnational character. An interdisciplinary group of scholars present case-studies on missions and individual missionaries, unified by a common vision of expanding a Christian Empire "to the ends of the world". Examples range from Madagascar, South-Africa, Palestine, Turkey, Tibet, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Canada and Britain. Engaging in activities from education, health care and development aid to religion, ethnography and collection of material culture, Christian missionaries considered themselves as global actors working for the benefit of common humanity. Yet, the missionaries came from, and operated within a variety of nation-states. Thus this volume demonstrates how processes on a national level are closely linked to larger transnational processes.
