Etwa 5400 Objekte begleiteten den jugendlichen Pharao Tutanchamun auf seinem letzten Weg und stellen bis heute die einzige, nahezu vollständig erhaltene Grabausstattung eines altägyptischen Königs dar. Unter den zahlreichen Grabbeigaben aus Metall fand sich auch eine kleine Gruppe von 19 Eisenobjekten, die von jeher besonderes Interesse geweckt hat ? entstammen sie doch einer Zeit, in der man in Ägypten noch weit davon entfernt war, die Technologie der Eisenverhüttung zu kennen, geschweige denn diese anwenden zu können.

In der Frühen Neuzeit avanciert der Schreibkalender zu einem der prominentesten Medien und generiert mit dem Kalenderschreiben eine völlig neue Kulturpraktik. Das geht nicht spurlos an der zeitgenössischen Literatur vorbei: Auch außerhalb des Kalenders wird in verschiedenen Texten kalendarisch geordnet und geschrieben. Diese Studie untersucht erstmals diese kalendarischen Spuren in der frühneuzeitlichen Literatur. Hierfür wird ein materialwissenschaftlich inspirierter Zugang gewählt: Der Schreibkalender, seine besondere materiale Faktur und die damit verbundenen Praktiken dienen als Ausgangspunkt für die literaturwissenschaftlichen Analysen. In the early modern period, the calendrical diary became one of the most prominent media and generated a completely new cultural practice of calendar writing. This also impacted contemporary literature: even beyond calendars, numerous texts were organised and written following the style of calendars. This study is the first to analyse these calendrical traces in early modern literature. For this purpose, a material culture studies approach is chosen: The literary analyses is based on the calendrical diary, its particular materiality and the practices associated with it.

Wohl kein mittelalterlicher Autor hat im Laufe der Jahrhunderte eine größere Faszination auf seine Leser ausgeübt als Meister Eckhart. Die besondere Universalität und Weite seines mystisch-theologischen Denkens hat ihn jedoch auch immer wieder zur Projektionsfläche für ideologisch motivierte Interpretationen aller Art gemacht. Der vorliegende Band beleuchtet die Rezeption, die Eckharts Mystik in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus erfahren hat. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei die verschiedenen und teilweise widersprüchlichen Versuche, Eckhart zum Begründer eines "germanischen Christentums" bzw. eines "deutschen Glaubens" zu stilisieren und ihn in polemischer Weise gegen das Judentum, aber auch gegen die Katholische Kirche in Stellung zu bringen. Meister Eckhart is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating medieval authors, who has appealed to a wide audience across the centuries. At the same time, the extraordinary universality and openness of his mystical-theological approach has repeatedly made him the object of all kinds of ideological projections and misinterpretations. The present volume examines the reception of Eckhart's mysticism in the era of National Socialism. The main focus is put on the different and sometimes contradictory attempts to present Eckhart as the founder of "Germanic Christianity" or "German faith" and as a visceral opponent of both Judaism and the Catholic Church.
