Voicing Vulnerable Bodies Living on the Edges : The Autoethnography of a Transnational Mariposa /
:
Panama has been considered one of the most developed countries in Latin America. With high skylines and a modern metro system, this Central American country hides a true reality when we explore it in a deeper level. Like many other marginalized groups, LGBT communities in Panama have been invisible and ignored by the State. Incidents related to homophobia, transphobia, and hate crime have been taken for granted for many years. Instead, LGBT individuals have been blamed for behaving against social and sometimes religious norms. This book answers the researcher's questions: (1) How can I use my transnational mariposa consciousness to document my lived experiences as a maricón in Panama? (2) What does it mean to be a gay man in Panama nowadays? (3) How do trans women's experiences with a hostile society shape their everyday existence?

Arabic manuscripts : a vademecum for readers /
:
Arranged alphabetically by subject and/or concept, the present handbook has been conceived, for convenience sake and quick reference, as an aid to students and researchers who are often puzzled or even sometimes intimidated by the 'mysterious' world of Arabic manuscripts and the technical language that goes with it. A companion volume to the recently published The Arabic Manuscript Tradition (2001) and its Supplement (2008), the vademecum comprises some 200 entries of varying lengths dealing with almost all aspects of Arabic manuscript studies (codicology and palaeography). It is richly illustrated with specimens from manuscripts and expertly executed drawings. The main sequence is followed by a number of appendices covering abbreviations, letterforms, sūrah-headings, major reference works and a guide to the description of manuscripts, as well as charts of major historical periods and dynasties.

Africa Unbound: Decolonial Pathways to Sovereignty and Liberation /
:
This book redefines the debate on Africa's future by confronting the hidden continuities of colonial power that persist in economics, education, and governance. By revealing how structural dependency and epistemic subjugation still constrain the continent's autonomy, this book advocates for a radical reorientation toward self-determination grounded in African values, knowledge systems, and collective agency. The author engages both historical depth and contemporary urgency, offering a visionary blueprint for rebuilding Africa through decolonial thought, ethical leadership, and continental solidarity. Scholarly, provocative, and transformative, the book positions Africa not as a subject of history, but as its author.

The Art of Rhetoric (Institutiones Oratoriae, 1711-1741) : From the definitive Latin text and notes, Italian commentary and introduction by Giuliano Crifò. Translated and Edited by...
:
Gustavo Costa reviewing the Italian edition of Vico's Institutiones Oratoriae in New Vico Studies 9 (1991), has written that Rhetoric is the mainspring of an important trend of Vichian studies which initiated at the beginning of the twentieth century and had its manifestation in John D. Schaeffer's Sensus Communis: Vico, Rhetoric, and the Limits of Relativism (Durham: Duke University Press, 1990), where Schaeffer aptly noted, summing up a long exegetic tradition, Vico was imbued with rhetoric and convinced of its centrality to Western civilization. Unfortunately, the editions of Vico's works published in English have not yet included the Institutiones Oratoriae , which more or less reflects the lectures on rhetoric given by Vico at the University of Naples, starting with the academic year 1699-1700 and going through 1739-1741. The manual on rhetoric was used in Italy up to the end of the nineteenth century and established the common curriculum in rhetoric to be followed in all Universities. This English edition offers a text of the Institutiones complete on the base of the four known extant manuscripts. It offers the marginal glosses made by Vico's students, a collection of Vico's phrases and explanations of terms collected by some of the students, a glossary of Latin words and rhetorical terms from the Latin text, and a wealth of information in the commentary. The Art of Rhetoric is the manual for everyone who wants to know what rhetoric is, how it was employed in the forum or the courts, how it could be learned from the classic orators, and how it can be used whenever we speak for convincing, praising or motivating.

Yearbook of Chinese theology 2016 /
:
The Yearbook of Chinese Theology is an international, ecumenical and fully peer-reviewed annual that covers Chinese Christianity in the areas of Biblical Studies, Church History, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, and Comparative Religions. It offers genuine Chinese theological research previously unavailable in English, by top scholars in the study of Christianity in China. The 2016 volume highlights the five sub-disciplines of theology. Wang Wei-fan's evangelical theology and Christian ecumenism and its internal contradiction is studied from a systematic theological viewpoint. Additionally, a theology of soul and body is proposed as an approach of sinicization of Christianity. Civil Christian and political identity are also studied in the relation to the sinicization of Christianity in China. The belief logic and social actions of the "Kingdom-Got sect" and the origin of "A New Treatise on Aids to Administration" have been explored from the historical perspective. The meditations of the Three-Self Church by K. H. Ting from a socio-religious perspective, and the missionaries' resolution of the term question in The Chinese Recorder have been studied in their relations to the Bible. There are comparative studies on the unreconciled religious diversity in the dialogue of civilizations and the different views about truth in Christianity and Confucianism. The academic report analyzes the eventful year of 2010 in the Catholic Church in China. This volume offers genuine Chinese theological research, which was previously unavailable in English, by top scholars in the study of Christianity in China. Contributors include: Juhong Ai, Jianming Chen and Tao Xiao, Xiaojuan Cheng, Xiangping Li, Gong Liang, Jianbo Huang, Paulos Huang, Meixiu Wang, Philip L. Francis A. Sullivan, S.J. and ecclesiological hermeneutics : an exercise in faithful creativity /
:
In Francis A. Sullivan, S.J. and Ecclesiological Hermeneutics , Canaris traces the significant contributions that Francis A. Sullivan, S.J. has made to Catholic ecclesiology, paying particular attention to the method and application of his hermeneutical approach to the writings of the magisterium. Though highly esteemed by professional theologians in both Catholic and ecumenical circles, Sullivan is less well-known among general audiences than many of his peers. The author addresses this lacuna by arguing that Sullivan's work, when viewed through an interpretive lens, can aid the faithful to engage seriously with magisterial texts of various genres and levels of authority, find meaning within them, and encourage an active reception process whereby contemporary understanding of the teaching (and learning) role of the entire church becomes possible.

The legal methodology of late Nehardean sages in Sasanian Babyloni a
:
This book consists of a systematic analysis of the halakhic/legal methodology of fourth and fifth century Nehardean amoraim in Babylonia (as well as their identity and dating). The book uncovers various distinct characteristics present in the halakhic decision making and source interpretation, and demonstrates how certain amoraim can be characterized as portraying consistent interpretive and legal approaches throughout talmudic literature. Understanding the methodological characteristics that distinguish some amoraim from other amoraim can aid the talmudic interpreter/scholar in clarifying the legal foundations of their rulings, the proofs that they bring within talmudic discourse, as well as their disputes and interpretations. This allows a better understanding of the development of Jewish Law and the legal system in talmudic Babylonia.

Music, Mortality, Memory /
:
Music comes to our aid when confronted with a sense of our own mortality as here revealed in a variety of contexts and moods. Musical composition and performance significantly influence and draw from personal loss and group trauma, gaining force in kaleidoscopic patterns of shared grief; so, too, with spiritual, devotional, and ritual participation. The chapters of this book, rooted in cultural, historical, and social case studies, exemplify these musical dynamics. Alert to a variety of diverse academic disciplines, the introduction and conclusion provide additional analysis and not only indicate directions for future research, but also for contemporary study across the humanities and social sciences. Contributors are: Janieke Bruin-Mollenhorst, Jonathan Clinch, Douglas Davies, Benjamin Goodman, Thomas Graves, Erin Johnson-Williams, Daithí Kearney, Wolfgang Marx, Matthew McCullough, and Maximillian Rosenthal.

The rhetoric of explanation in Lucretius' De rerum natura /
:
Alleged incompatibility of Epicurus' philosophy with rhetoric has led modern scholars to isolate rhetorical procedures in Lucretius' De rerum natura and regard them as non-Epicurean, accessory features. This study of Lucretius' rhetorical procedures is based on a wider understanding of the term rhetoric, not limited to the genre of oratory. In a fresh discussion of the questions of provenance and the role of the most important formal procedures of exposition in De rerum natura the author argues that instead of injecting rhetorical strategies from non-Epicurean sources, Lucretius in fact intensified rhetorical elements already present in the work of Epicurus. These elements are used for the purpose of explanation, and function as cognitive and mnemonic aids for the reader.

America's Great Age of Rhetoric, 1770-1860 : Advocacy, Conceptualization, Institutionalization /
:
This book analyzes the advocacy, conceptualization, and institutionalization of rhetoric from 1770 to 1860. Among the forces promoting advocacy was the need for oratory calling for independence, the belief that using rhetoric was the way to succeed in biblical interpretation and preaching, and the desire for rhetoric as entertainment. Conceptually, leaders followed classical and German rhetoricians in viewing rhetoric as an art of ethical choice. Institutionally, a rhetorician such as Ebenezer Porter called for the development of organizations at all levels, a "sociology of rhetoric." Orville Dewey highlighted the passion for rhetoric, calling his times "the age of eloquence."

The yoga at the basis of this study is that which forms the core of the Tantras . In the first chapter the author surveys the system of Tantrik yoga. He then continues with a discussion of the various forms of yantras , that is all the means employed by yogis in their meditational exercises as aids to the concentration of thought. Sonic Stagings of U.S. Postwar Audiopoetry : Practices, Configurations, and Contexts of Poetry on Sound Carriers (c. 1950s-1980s) /
:
As the first study of its kind, this book explores the publication of poetry on sound carriers in the US postwar era from an aesthetic as well as an historical point of view. Combining approaches from media and literary studies, it explains why labels and individuals like Amiri Baraka, Bernadette Mayer, or John Giorno straddled the lines between music, poetry, and visual arts using audio recording and playing devices. It sheds light on the sonic imaginaries that commercial and avant-gardist recording projects sought to mobilize and sometimes also unwittingly reproduced in this context.
