La décrétale Ad Gallos episcopos, son texte et son auteur : texte critique, traduction française et commentaire /

In 1904, Ed.-Ch. Babut issued a new edition of the important Decretale Ad Gallos episcopos with the help of a second manuscript of the canonical "collection of St. Maur". He attributed it to Pope Damasus (366-384), and not to Sirice (384-398). Nevertheless, he did ignore the existence of the ancestor of the two previous manuscripts and of an other collection, materialized today by two fragmented manuscripts. This new edition of the Decretale is updated with the help of all the existing traditions and brings significant improvements. The attribution to Damasus, discussed throughout the 20th century is here confirmed through another method than Babut's. The survey of the content, the texts of the holy scripture used, and argumentation make possible the identification of the influence of Jerome who was the secretary of Damasus in 382-384. He was the only man using specific bible texts or specific expressions present in this Decretale. In spite of his wish to base all his decisions upon the Scripture and upon the Fathers' tradition (Nicée-Sardique), we discover in this decretale, focused essentially on the life of the blessed virgins and on the hiring process and life of the church, the strong assessment of the power of the "Sedes apostolica" and also of the necessity of a discipline policy, designed by the Church of Rome.

Sans cesse, elle explora d'horizons divers, arpentant des territoires novateurs. Riche de ses exils, des « pays de la mort » jusqu'au Québec et New York, Robin creusa des pistes dans ses ruines personnelles, posant les fondations d'une nouvelle écriture de la Shoah, sans jamais céder à L'Immense Fatigue des pierres . Son œuvre protéiforme, chantier à vif resté inachevé, est traversée de problématiques identitaires, à la lisière de la déconstruction et en dialogue avec les arts et pratiques mémorielles. Précurseure aussi de l'ère digitale, son "work in progress" est source d'inspiration pour ses contemporains. Régine Robin (1939-2021) was an extraordinary intellectual. A historian and sociologist, philosopher and novelist, linguist and translator of Yiddish, she was the anthropologist of non-places. Continuously, she explored diverse horizons, navigating innovative territories. Enriched by her exiles, from the "lands of death" to Quebec and New York, Robin delved into paths within her personal ruins, laying the foundations for a new writing of the Shoah, without ever yielding to L'Immense Fatigue des pierres . . Her multifaceted work, an unfinished raw project, is imbued with identity issues, on the edge of deconstruction, and in dialogue with the arts and memory practices. A forerunner of the digital age, her "work in progress" continues to inspire her contemporaries.

For the majority of scholars, the Animal Apocalypse is a militant text, a piece of pro-Maccabean propaganda. This text, however, develops theological reflections that are distinctly different from a justification of an armed struggle. Its themes are even incompatible with the Maccabean movement. It is impossible to condemn the Second Temple and, at the same time, mobilise people for a fight in order to purify that very Temple. After dealing with text-critical issues, this work challenges the thesis that the text is military propaganda through the use of narrative and historical approaches. The analyses, besides proposing a new way of a studying an apocalypse, spell out the peculiarity and the significance of the theology of the Animal Apocalypse in connection with the biblical history of Israel and the theology of the Qumran community.

In his book Generations of Sufis , Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī (died 1021), the Sufi master of Nishapur and Shafiʿi traditionist and historian, collected the teachings of 105 Sufi masters who lived between the 2nd/8th and the 4th/10th centuries. Sulami gives a short biography of each master with representative quotations from his teachings. He thereby illustrates the numerous approaches to the spiritual path and the unity of its principles. One of the oldest works of the sort, it assembles the doctrinal foundations from which medieval Sufism developed. It is a key reference which influenced all Sufi literature and even historiography. This is the first translation of a work of this type to be published in a European language. Dans Les générations des Soufis Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Sulamī (m. 1021), maître soufi de Nishapur, traditionniste šāfiʿite et historien, collecte l'enseignement de cent cinq maîtres soufis qui vécurent entre le 2e/8e et le 4e/10e siècles. Pour chacun d'eux, Sulamī propose une courte notice biographique et un ensemble de citations représentatives de son enseignement. Il rend ainsi compte de la diversité des approches de la voie spirituelle et de l'unité de ses principes. Cet ouvrage, l'un des plus anciens de ce type, rassemble le socle doctrinal sur lequel s'élabora le soufisme médiéval. Référence incontournable, il eut une influence considérable sur toute la littérature du soufisme et même l'historiographie. Cette traduction est la première en langue européenne d'un ouvrage de ce type.

This third volume in a series devoted to the excavations of the Louvre Museum in Saqqara studies the tombs of the Old Kingdom discovered under the direction of Christiane Ziegler. Around the mastaba of Akhethetep, now kept in the Louvre and published in volume I, unfolds a necropolis hitherto unknown with the exception of the small decorated chapel E17 excavated by Mariette. It is a series of stone and brick mastabas whose excavation has revealed the topography and the history of this northern zone of the Unas causeway at the time of the pyramids. The sector has delivered burials as well as numerous objects from the same period: fragments of bas-reliefs, stelae, offering tables, items of funerary furniture, ceramics. The scientific presentation of the results is accompanied by a series of multidisciplinary studies on geophysical prospecting, hieratic inscriptions and graffiti, human remains, ceramics, mud bricks and their modules, preventive conservation and restoration. The carbon 14 analysis carried out on the samples taken during the excavations provide details on the chronology of the Old Kingdom.

This fourth volume of IBIS completes the first series of this analytical bibliography of publications concerning the spread of cults of Isis published between 1940 and 1969 (nos. 1167 to 1752). Authors have sometimes been driven to look beyond the limits of the Greco-Roman world and the field of the Isiac cults stricto sensu . Such is the case with Egyptian or Egyptisizing documents carried by Greek or Phonecian-Punic commerce towards the distant western coasts of the Mediterranean basin. The Egyptophile tradition in our European culture seems to have taken its place here too.
