In Die Rifāʽīya spürt Boris Liebrenz der Buchkultur des Osmanischen Syrien (16. - 19. Jahrhundert) durch den Fokus der einzig überlebenden Privatbibliothek der Epoche nach. Er fragt nach der Produktion und Transmission von Wissen sowie dem sozialen Hintergrund der Leserschaft im Zeitalter der Handschrift. Studien der arabischen Bibliotheksgeschichte haben oft nur das Mittelalter in den Blick genommen und basierten fast ausschließlich auf literarischen Quellen. Dies ist die erste Monographie, die eine einzige Region während der Osmanischen Periode in den Fokus nimmt und deren auf uns gekommene Handschriften und Notizen ihrer Leser und Besitzer systematisch als dokumentarische Quelle benutzt. So erhellt sie die materiellen, rechtlichen und sozialen Voraussetzungen von Buchbesitz und Lesepraxis. In Die Rifāʽīya Boris Liebrenz explores the book culture of Ottoman Syria (16th to 19th century), using the only surviving Damascene private library of the time as a vantage point. He asks about the production and transmission of knowledge as well as the social background of the reading audience in a manuscript age. Scholarship on Arabic libraries has often focussed on the medieval period and relied nearly exclusively on literary accounts. This is the first book-length study that focuses on a single region in the Ottoman period and systematically uses the vast number of surviving manuscripts as a documentary source by means of the notes left by their readers and possessors. Thus, it sheds light on the material, juridical, and social basis of book-ownership and reading.

Les premières fouilles archéologiques furent entreprises à Sinope entre 1951 et 1953. Des travaux ponctuels ont ensuite été menés, mais ce n'est qu'au début des années 90 que Sinope a connu un regain d'intérêt et que l'activité archéologique s'est développée à l'échelle internationale, avec tout d'abord les fouilles des ateliers amphoriques, puis divers programmes terrestres et sous-marins. Les Actes du Symposium international rassemblent les résultats de ces travaux, ainsi que les recherches consacrées à l'histoire de cette ville, depuis sa fondation jusqu'à la période seldjoukide, à ses productions artisanales, à son commerce et à ses relations avec le reste de la mer Noire.

Cet essai est la première étude d'envergure sur la science-fiction française (SFF) du XXe s. (jusqu'à 1968). Évitant le double écueil de l'élitisme et du populisme, l'auteur propose de voir la science-fiction comme une poétique de l'altérité dans les domaines du socio-historique et du bio-écologique. À partir des études d'historiens et de théoriciens majeurs de la science-fiction (D. Suvin, I.F. Clarke, R. Scholes, G. Klein, M. Angenot), des travaux sur l'imaginaire social (C. Castoriadis) et sur la sociologie des biens symboliques de P. Bourdieu, il tente de répondre à une série de questions: comment, en dépit de leur état florissant, l'anticipation et le roman scientifique français n'ont-ils pu déboucher sur un mouvement comparable à celui de la science-fiction américaine des années 1920? À quoi attribuer la crise persistante de la science-fiction française, avant et après les années 1950, date de la découverte de la science-fiction américaine en France par l'action notamment de Boris Vian et Raymond Queneau? L'auteur a cherché une réponse à ces questions dans la poétique sociale du genre. Retournant aux textes, il réalise une vue en coupe de la SFF à travers cinq modèles socio-discursifs majeurs représentés par Rosny Aîné, Maurice Renard, Jacques Spitz, B.R. Bruss, Stefan Wul. Der Erste Weltkrieg macht ein Phänomen moderner Kriege greifbar: die enge Verflechtung von militärischen und industriellen Aufgabenstellungen. Er wird oft als der erste industrialisierte Krieg beschrieben. Die sich rapide modernisierende Realität des Kriegsgeschehens 1914 bis 1918 ließ die Bedeutung einer steten Versorgung mit industriell hergestellten Gütern immer weiter anwachsen. Dies betraf sowohl die Ausrüstung und Versorgung der Soldaten an den Fronten, auf dem Meer und in der Luft wie auch der Zivilbevölkerung in der Heimat. Die Perspektive der produzierenden Unternehmen in den verschiedenen Wirtschaftsbranchen in diesem Geschehenszusammenhang ist bislang aber kaum erforscht. Die Studien in diesem Band werfen dazu neue Fragen auf und bieten innovative Ansätze, um diese Lücke zu schließen.
