:
During his life, Michael Klein played a key role in helping establish the foundation for the modern study of the Targums. He was known for his thorough studies of targumic translation techniques and for his editions of the Fragment Targums and the Cairo Geniza fragments of Palestinian Targums. This collection of his essays brings together some of his writings on translation technique and studies on the Cairo Geniza material on Targums Onqelos and Jonathan, as well as the Writings. Essays on the Palestinian Targums feature as well, with studies of Targum Neofiti and Geniza discoveries that occurred after his edition. It begins with a Foreward by Avigdor Shinan and Rimon Kasher and ends with a personal tribute by Stefan Reif.

A Late Middle Kingdom Private Stela of the Priests of Hathor (Cairo Museum CG 20780) /
:
In this paper, the stela of Senbi (CG 20780), the great wab-priest of Hathor, as well as overseer of fields, and his wife Nebunakht, who was also a priestess of Hathor, is published exclusively for the first time. The stela is currently preserved in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. Unfortunately, nothing is mentioned about this stela’s provenance in the museum’s records. The stela alludes to several titles of both Senbi (imy-r3 3?(w)t and w‘b ‘3 n ?wt-?r) and his wife Nebunakht (?mt n?r ?wt-?r), but the unique peculiarity of the stela is its reference to the epithet sn ?q3 “The Brother of the Ruler.” This stela can be dated to the late Middle Kingdom based on the individuals’ names, as well as the titles of the owner and his family. The design and the depiction of multiple members in the stela are also characteristics of the Middle Kingdom stelae. All these criteria, along with some relevant grammatical features contribute to a late Middle Kingdom date—most likely the Thirteenth Dynasty. The author describes the stela, discusses its philological, iconographical, and stylistic features, and examines the titles of its owners.

:
Pesiqta Rabbati is a midrashic collection of homilies derived from the Hebrew bible related to Jewish observance of festivals, fast days, and special Sabbaths. The book underscores the importance and purpose of Pesiqta Rabbati: to explain the centrality of midrash in the life, culture, and ethnicity of Jewish belief and practice, as well as the importance of practice sustaining the continuity of Jews and their identity. Textual details are drawn from contemporary events (5th- 11th century) and Jewish ethics. Topics include apocalyptic thought, the suffering Messiah ben Ephraim, the Jerusalem Temple, and reactions to Christianity and Islam. Methods applied are text linguistics, borderland theories, halachic discourse analysis, semiotics, and literary criticism.
