This book explores new approaches to the study of the complex relation between models and copies. Targums and the transmission of scripture into Judaism and Christianity /

This collection of seventeen previously published essays and two hitherto unpublished articles examines strategies adopted by ancient Aramaic translators of the Hebrew Bible in their attempts to transmit the meaning of Scripture to their own generations. The intricate interpretations of Targum Pseudo-Jonathan feature prominently: analysis of them suggests a date for the substance of this Targum rather earlier than is commonly assumed. The biblical exegesis of Jerome (ca. 342-420 CE) often reflects Targumic interpretation of Scripture: as well as helping to date items of Jewish interpretation, Jerome's writings also witness to continuing close contacts between Christians and Jews at a crucial stage in the history of both communities. The essays also demonstrate the relationship of the Targums both to other Rabbinic texts and to early translations of the Bible like Septuagint; the versions of Aquila, Symmachus, and Theodotion; and the Peshitta.

The Hermetic writings transmitted in Greek, Latin and Coptic ( Corpus hermeticum , Asclepius and the three Hermetic texts in Codex VI of Nag Hammadi) are evidences of different religious trends within the Hermetic tradition, between the 2nd and the 4th centuries. These currents belong to Egyptian wisdom, while mixing Egyptian and Greek traditions, and they propose a way to salvation, the way of Hermes. This volume is the first monograph which explores the ritual practices and their place on this way to salvation. Sacrifices, prayers, the baptism in the crater, regeneration and visions are successively analyzed in Greek, Latin and Coptic literature. A large place is reserved for didactic practice, which participates in the spiritual formation of the disciple, especially through spiritual exercises. This book studies also how at least some authors participate in philosophical and religious debates of their time. It will be of interest to both historians of the end of Antiquity and historians of religion and philosophy. Les écrits hermétiques transmis en grec, latin et copte ( Corpus hermeticum , Asclepius et les trois textes hermétiques du Codex VI de Nag Hammadi) sont les témoins de différents courants religieux qui relèvent de la tradition hermétique, entre le IIe et le IVe siècle. Ces courants appartiennent à un milieu de sagesse égyptien, tout en mêlant tradition égyptienne et tradition grecque, et proposent une voie de salut, la voie d'Hermès. Ce volume est la première monographie qui étudie les pratiques rituelles et leur place dans la voie de salut. À partir de la documentation grecque, latine et copte, sont tour à tour analysées les sacrifices, les prières, le baptême dans le cratère, la régénération et les visions. Une place importante est accordée à la pratique didactique, qui participe à la formation spirituelle du disciple, notamment par le biais d'exercices spirituels. Ce livre étudie aussi la manière dont au moins certains auteurs s'intègrent dans les débats philosophico-religieux de leur époque. Die Arbeit bietet erstens eine übersichtliche Darstellung sämtlicher Merkmale der Kiever Blätter und eine ausführliche Besprechung der bisherigen Ansichten über Paläographie und Orthographie, supralineare Zeichen, Sprache, Wortschatz, Syntax, poetische Merkmale, Folio 1r usw. In den bisherigen Gesamtarbeiten über die Kiever Blätter werden ein oder mehr Aspekte der Handschrift kaum erörtert, und die vorhandenen Bibliographien weisen viele Lücken auf. Die ausführliche Bibliographie in diesem Buch entbehrt keiner einzigen Arbeit, die für das Studium der Kiever Blätter wichtig ist. Zweitens werden den bisherigen Untersuchungen weitere Beobachtungen hinzugefügt. Im IV. Kapitel liegt ein bisher fehlender Formenbestand vor, und wird die Theorie, laut welcher die Kiever Blätter in Pannonien, am Plattensee, zu Ende des IX. oder zu Anfang des X. Jh. entstanden sind und eine slovakisch-kroatische Übergangsmundart wiederspiegeln, verteidigt. Im IX. Kapitel wird die ketzerische Hypothese Hamms, wonach die Kiever Blätter ein Gebilde des tschechischen Fälschers aus dem XIX. Jh., Václav Hanka, seien, wiederlegt. In einem Exkurs wird das Problem der Bedeutung der Akzentzeichen im Ersten Freisinger Denkmal geklärt. Am Ende der Arbeit sind eine neue Transkription und ein neues Glossar der Kiever Blätter (einschliesslich Folio 1r), sowie der Text des Codex Paduanus D47 und eine Liste der Abweichungen von der Jagi/cschen Transkription, hinzugefügt
