Research in the Social Scientific Study of Religion publishes empirical and theoretical studies of religion from a wide range of disciplines and from all parts of the globe. A special section is devoted to the issue of psychological type and religion and especially how psychological type can increase our understanding of Christian ministry. Alongside this section are papers presenting studies on subjects such as civic participation, suffering with God, and spirituality. Together these papers represent important contributions that advance theory and evidence in a number of different fields of contemporary relevance to the study of religion.

The general papers in Research in the Social Scientific Study of Religion, Volume 29 cover a range of topics including psychological type, prayer, nature and well-being, psychobiography, coping with addiction, and the role of place in spirituality. The first special section on congregational studies draws on a range of large datasets from the National Church Life Surveys in Australia. Papers examine the factors that predict individual sense of belonging in Catholic parishes as well as congregational-level aspects of vitality, collective confidence, and innovativeness. The second special section examines the Ideological Surround Model and how it can help to better understand expressions of faith related to psychological constructs such as mindfulness, fundamentalism, and the 'Dark Triad' of Machiavellianism, Narcissism, and Psychopathy.

Researching the Reformation studies the history and historiography of early Anglicanism in order to pay tribute to the scholarship of W. Brown Patterson. Three of the volume's sections are inspired by Patterson's research monographs. The first taking its cue from Patterson's study of Thomas Fuller, analyses the intersection of mythology and historiography surrounding the English Reformation. The second, following Patterson's study of William Perkins, turns to the general theological and political contours of early modern England. The third pans out in both geography and chronology, thus emulating Patterson's award-winning study of King James VI and I. The fourth and final section analyses how, in the nineteenth century, the early modern period was reinvented by the Parker Society and the Oxford Movement. Contributors are: Benjamin M.
