How to understand and practice World Christianity and mission in the twenty-first century? What does World Christianity mean to an ordinary Christian in their everyday life? In what ways do Christians belong to a global Christian community? This book engages with these questions by offering a critical perspective on prevalent notions of World Christianity. In a context where World Christianity is often understood as an effort to make the whole world Christian or as Christianity of the global south, this book emphasises the importance of global connections in Christianity. This way of thinking about World Christianity not only opens up new horizons in scholarship but also has implications for the practice of everyday Christian mission in the contemporary context: through building connections with fellow Christians from different denominational and geographical backgrounds, with people of other religions and traditions, and with the wider society.

A large number of hajj travelogues are described as a textual type integrating religious discourse into the form of the journey. Special attention is given to their intertextual embedding in the broader discursive tradition of the hajj. Since the corpus is seen as dynamic and responsive to historical developments, the texts are situated in their historical context and the subsequent phases of globalisation. It is shown how in travelogues forms of religious subjectivity are constructed and expressed.

This volume analyzes religious and non-religious narratives on migration from an international and interdisciplinary perspective. Narratives shape the perception of migration. The recourse to religion as well as the self-understanding of religious people and religious communities play an important role in this context. As part of the COST Action 2017 "Connecting Theory and Practical Issues of Migration and Religious Diversity", international researchers from various disciplines - theology, social sciences, philosophy - are exploring contemporary perspectives on migration based on subject-specific understandings of the concept of "narrative" and are also discussing the role and contributions of religion. Particular attention is paid to the original voices of migrants. For this purpose, the innovative method of so-called "narrative cafés" was developed. The volume thus offers numerous insights for critical reflection on migration narratives in academic and socio-political practice.

This title compares the religious and social functions of the festivals of Opet, the Valley and the New Year, the first two of which were often regarded by the Egyptians as a pair; the New Year Festival stands out on account of its corpus of surviving material and importance. Until now, detailed study of the New Year Festival has only been carried out with reference to the Greco-Roman period; this study turns its attention to the New Kingdom. The book analyses the broad perspectives that encompass Egyptian religion and cult practices which provided the context not only for worship and prayer, but also for the formation of social identity and responsibility. The festivals are examined in the whole together with their settings in the religious and urban landscapes. The best example is New Kingdom Thebes where large temples and burial sites survive intact today with processional routes connecting some of them.

Based on Ottoman state archives, testimonies collected by the Centre of Asia Minor Studies, and various pre-1923 hand-written and printed sources mostly in Ottoman- and Karamanli-Turkish, and Greek, the study covers the period from 1839 to 1923 and proposes an anthropological perspective on everyday cross-religious interactions. It focuses on questions such as identification and mapping of communities, sharing of space and resources, use of languages, and religiosity in the context of conversions and of shared sacred spaces and beliefs to investigate everyday realities of a multireligious rural society which disappeared with the fall of the Empire.
