"In Der Ṭarab der Sängersklavinnen gibt Yasemin Gökpinar einen Einblick in Ibn Faḍl-Allāh al-'Umarī's Masālik al-abṣār fīmamālik al-amṣār (vol. 10) über Hofmusik von den Abbasiden bis zu den Mamluken mit Schwerpunkt auf den Sängersklavinnen (qiyān). Die interdisziplinäre Studie stellt Autor und Werk vor und etabliert das Liederbuch als historische Quelle. Zudem werden unterschiedliche strukturelle und inhaltliche Aspekte kombiniert: eine Untersuchung der Liedtextüberlieferer und des soziokulturellen Kontextes des Hoflebens im Lichte von Thomas Bauer's Ambiguitätstheorie, eine musikwissenschaftliche Analyse des Verhältnisses zwischen poetischem Metrum der Lieder und ihren musikalischen Rhythmen, schliesslich eine Betrachtung des Handlungsspielraumes der Sängerinnen und ihrer (relativen) Macht über ihre Besitzer durch ihre hervorragende Ausbildung und natürlichen Anlagen. In this volume Yasemin Gökpinar provides insight into Ibn Faḍl-Allāh al-'Umarī's Masālik al-abṣār fīmamālik al-amṣār (vol. 10) about court music from the Abbasids to the Mamluks, with special emphasis on the subject of high ranking singing slave-girls (qiyān). Her interdisciplinary study focuses on the author and his work, and presents the songbook as a historical source. Different aspects concerning structure and contents are combined: an investigation of the song transmitters, a study into the socio-cultural context of courtly life with an application of Thomas Bauer's theory of ambiguity, a musicological analysis of the relation between metre of song texts and rhythmic modes in music, and finally an exploration of the singing-girls' leeway and even power over their owners, through education".

Die in der Arbeit vorgenomme Auslegung der Schriften De Josepho und De Somniis II von Philo von Alexandria liest die beiden gegensätzlichen Darstellungen der Josephfigur als Beitrag zum Herrschaftsdiskurs. Die ambivalenten Tendenzen der biblischen Josephfigur bilden für ihn den Ausgangspunkt am Beispiel Josephs, Strukturen sowohl tyrannischer als auch idealer Herrschaft zu untersuchen. Philos Kenntnis griechisch-hellenistischer Philosophie sowie sein Verständnis der Tora als göttlich inspiriertem Text ermöglicht ihm, den politischen Charakter auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen zu reflektieren. Die Spannung zwischen beiden Traktaten bleibt dabei bestehen und kann als bewusste Darstellung gelungener und tyrannischer Herrschaft gedeutet werden. Zugleich entwickelt Philo aus den Ambivalenzen der Josephfigur heraus ein Herrschaftskonzept, welches aufgrund des Toraverständnisses politisches Handeln aus Abhängigkeiten befreit und universale Handlungsvorgaben und Kontrollinstanzen aufzeigt. -------- The exegesis of De Josepho and De Somniis II intended in this work read the two portrayals of Joseph as Philo's contribution to the discourse on government. The ambivalent tendencies in the Joseph figure form the point of departure for Philo in using it for examining structures of tyrannical and ideal rule. Philo's knowledge of Greek-Hellenistic philosophy and his understanding of the Torah enables him to reflect upon the political character on different levels. Thus the tension between both treatises can be interpreted as a conscious portrayal of effective and of tyrannical rule. At the same time Philo develops a concept of government out of the ambivalences of the Joseph figure, which, on the basis of the understanding of the Torah, liberates political action from dependencies and points out universal guidelines for action and the authorities responsible for control of them.

Isaac of Nineveh (7th century AD), or Isaac the Syrian, was, among all the Syriac writers, the one to exert the greatest influence outside the Syriac-speaking world, becoming a highly venerated Father of Byzantine Orthodox spirituality and theology. In Isaak von Nineve und seine Kephalaia Gnostika , Nestor Kavvadas first draws out the frictions between East Syrian episcopacy and the anchorite mystical movement as represented by Isaac, in search of the historical context of Isaac's teaching on the working of the Holy Spirit on the monk. Then, he draws out of Isaac's writings, and especially the Kephalaia Gnostika , the underlying structure of Isaac's thought on the working of the Holy Spirit, with the tension here between the here and now and the 'New World' that can be momentarily anticipated in the present world. Isaak von Ninive (7. Jh. n.Chr.), oder Isaak der Syrer, war unter allen Syrischen Autoren derjenige, der den größten Einfluss außerhalb der syrischsprachigen Welt ausübte, indem er ein besonders verehrter Vater der byzantinischen orthodoxen Spiritualität und Theologie wurde. In Isaak von Ninive und seine Kephalaia Gnostika zeichnet Nestor Kavvadas zuerst die Reibungen zwischen dem ostsyrischen Episkopat und der volumea. durch Isaak vertretenen, anachoretischen mystischen Strömung nach, auf der Suche nach dem historischen Kontext der Lehre Isaaks vom Wirken des Heiligen Geistes auf den Mönch. Dann rekonstruiert er aus den Schriften Isaaks, insbesondere aus den Kephalaia Gnostika , die Isaaks Denken vom Wirken des Heiligen Geistes zugrundeliegende Struktur; leitend ist hier die Spannung zwischen dem "hier und jetzt" und der "Neuen Welt", die in dieser Welt augenblicklich antizipiert werden kann.
