Revisiting the Critical Legacy of Shah Ismail : An Inquiry into the Lost Gnostic Tradition of Khatai /

: Explore the enigmatic legacy of Shah Ismail in this groundbreaking work by Seyed Javad Miri, wherein the author reexamines Shah Ismail not merely as a historical figure but as a mystic, poet, and thinker who profoundly influenced Iranian and global intellectual landscapes. Through critical approaches to knowledge, language, and social theory, the book unearths the marginalized Gnostic tradition of Khatai, revealing its enduring significance. By challenging Eurocentric and nationalist historiographies, Miri invites you to rethink the intersections of Irfan, governance, and cultural identity.

Islamic legal thought : a compendium of Muslim jurists /

: In Islamic Legal Thought: A Compendium of Muslim Jurists , twenty-three scholars each contribute a chapter on a distinguished Muslim jurist. The volume is organized chronologically and it includes jurists who represent the formative, classical and modern periods of Islamic legal thought. Each chapter contains both a biography of an individual jurist and a translated sample of his work. The biographies emphasize the scholarly milieu in which the jurist worked-his teachers, colleagues and pupils, as well as the type of juridical thinking for which he is best known. The translated sample highlights the contribution of each jurist to the evolution of both the method and the methodology of Islamic jurisprudence. The introduction by the volume's three editors, Oussama Arabi, David S. Powers and Susan A. Spectorsky, provides a concise overview of the contents. Contributors include: Oussama Arabi, Murteza Bedir, Jonathan E. Brockopp, Robert Gleave, Camilo Gómez-Rivas, Mahmoud O. Haddad, Peter C. Ethics and spirituality in Islam : sufi adab /

: The notion of adab is at the heart of Arab-Islamic culture. Born in the crucible of the Arabic and Persian civilization, nourished by Greek and Indian influences, this polysemic notion could cover a variegated range of meanings: good behavior, knowledge of manners, etiquette, rules and belles-lettres and finally, literature. This collection of articles tries to explore how the formulations and reformulations of adab during the first centuries of Islam engage with the crucial period of the first great spiritual masters, exploring the importance of normativity, but also of transgression, in order to define the rules themselves. Assuming that adab is ethics, the articles analyse the genres of Sufi adab , including manuals and hagiographical accounts, from the formative period of Sufism until the modernity. Lost in a Sea of Letters : Saʿd al-Dīn Ḥamūya and the Plurality of Sufi Knowledge /

: In Lost in a Sea of Letters , Cyril Uy explores the life and work of Saʿd al-Dīn Ḥamūya (d. 1252), a Mongol-era Sufi whose arcane treatises inspired generations of mystics and messiahs. Reading Ḥamūya in dialogue with contemporaries across Central Asia, Iran, and the Eastern Mediterranean, Uy excavates a world in which knowledge was an embodied sensibility: a way of being that could improvise across all dimensions of human experience. Ḥamūya's performative writing reworked the foundations of this knowledge, provoking readers to live reality through the cacophony of his Sufi free jazz. Foregrounding Ḥamūya's deconstructive ethos and radical openness to interpretation, Uy reveals how embracing plurality could thrive as a mode of social, intellectual, and spiritual competition.
