The Changing Political Structure of Europe : Aspects of International Law /
:
Following profound modifications of Soviet ideology after the coming to power of Gorbachev, Europe experienced an unprecedented time of change which resulted, inter alia, in the unification of the two German States, the abolition of socialist international organizations, the obsolescence of neutrality policies in the New Europe and the pull on the European Communities to admit new members. These revolutionary events give rise to interesting legal questions. Since international relations are changing, the legal framework in which these relations are set has to change, too. In December 1990, international legal aspects of the changes in the political structure of Europe were discussed at a conference held in Amsterdam. In this book, which takes account of the outcomes of the discussions, the international legal framework in which these changes take place and their consequences are described and analyzed by eminent scholars from East and West.

India in World Affairs : The Next Decade /
:
It is very evident that much of the scholarly work currently done in the field of defence, human resources, strategic and development studies converges on issues which impact international relations both in policy formulation and its implementation through bilateral or multilateral arrangements. Issues such as Energy, Environment, Disaster Management, Technology, Food, Agriculture, Poverty, Health, Refugees, Migration, Trade, Political Formations among others, are now increasingly influencing global decision-making. The Osmania Universiy Centre for International Programmes-OUCIP had organized an international conference to reflect on these issues. The present volume is an edited collection of the papers presented at the conference. Divided into nine parts, the essays deal with India's reach, role and responsibility as a soft power, her relations with immediate neighbours as well as the big powers in the decades ahead. It also includes essays on India's influence and contribution to regions like Africa, Middle East and Asia-Pacific as well as her ability to tackle the issues like Food, Water Energy, and so on in her interactions with world community. Analysing the multiple dimensions of India's foreign relations this collection will be invaluable for students and scholars of international relations and strategic studies.

Interference in Sovereign Affairs and the Discursive Economy of International Law /
:
Interference in sovereign affairs is seemingly everywhere but nowhere at the same time. Whether it is pressure on or corruption of public officials, conditionality in development assistance, criticism of one's human rights record, psychological or propaganda operations, instrumentalization of diasporas, international organization supervision or meddling diplomats, the phenomenon is as amorphous as it is diffuse. But what if it was the lens that we use to capture interference that was the problem? How do the tools we use in international law blind us to the reality of certain phenomena? The urgency of understanding interference on its terms has never been greater, and it requires nothing less than a reimagining of the sort of discursive investments on which international law rests.

Judge Manfred Lachs and Judicial Law-Making : Opinions on the International Court of Justice, 1967-1993 /
:
This volume, the second in the series The Judges , which collects and synthesizes the opinions of leading international contemporary judges who have contributed significantly to the progressive development of international law, is devoted to the work of Judge Manfred Lachs, who was elected to the International Court of Justice in 1967. In his Foreword to the study, UN Secretary General Boutros Boutros-Ghali says of Lachs that ` His contribution to jurisprudence is especially noteworthy. He initiated a significant part of the jurisprudence of the Court in the area of human rights. He contributed to the formulation of the right to self-determination, helped to develop the law of the sea, and participated in the work of the Court in many other areas. But, above all, he was at the forefront of the most progressive battles of the Court, demonstrating great personal courage and great analytical rigour. As President of the Court, he showed a constant interest in improving its procedures and developing relations between the judicial organ and other organs of the United Nations. ' Edward McWhinney's masterly essay, which precedes extracts from Manfred Lachs' Opinions and from some Judgements in which he played a crucial role, is essential reading for all those interested in the World Court, as well for Manfred Lachs' countless admirers, students and colleagues. Contemporary International Law Issues: Opportunities at a Time of Momentous Change /
:
Contemporary International Law Issues: Opportunities at a Time of Momentous Change is the record of the Second Joint Conference of The American Society of International Law and the Nederlandse Vereniging voor Internationaal Recht, which was held in The Hague, on July 22--24, 1993. At this event international scholars, practitioners and experts gathered to discuss the latest developments in such areas as trade and investment, the environment, human rights, law of the sea, settlement of disputes, international criminal law, NAFTA, the European Community, and commercial arbitration with particular reference to Central and Eastern Europe. The content of these Proceedings bears evidence of the wide range of dialogue that occurred during the Joint Conference and directs the reader to issues which might form suitable subjects for further research and elaboration in other scholarly work. The book will be of interest to academics and diplomats, as well as legal practitioners.
