Les classiques continuent de fasciner les artistes de la scène, qui ne cessent de s'interroger sur la manière dont ces œuvres sont susceptibles de rejoindre le public. En inscrivant ce livre à l'enseigne de la célèbre formule « faire théâtre de tout » du metteur en scène français Antoine Vitez, nous désirons montrer la persistance d'une problématique qui oblige à tenir compte de l'évolution des formes dramatiques mais aussi du régime culturel plus vaste, numérique en ce qui concerne le XXIe siècle, au sein duquel s'insère la transposition de ces œuvres sur la scène. Les études rassemblées dans ce volume jettent un regard croisé sur les pratiques scéniques contemporaines qui recourent à des textes littéraires au Québec et en Europe, tout en éclairant plusieurs enjeux théoriques et méthodologiques. Classics from prior centuries continue to fascinate theatre artists. They never stop thinking of ways to stage these works to reach actual audiences. By referring, in the title of our book, to French director Antoine Vitez's famous quote "make theatre with everything", we want to point out the persistence of a problematic causing artists to not only take into account the evolution of dramatic forms, but also the broader cultural regime, digital for the 21st Century, within which these transpositions take place. The studies gathered in this volume bring a fresh perspective to the contemporary performing practices in Quebec and in Europe using literary texts, and illuminate many theoretical and methodological issues in the process.

There has recently been a great deal of scholarship on the origins of rhetoric, as well as on important 4th-century figures, such as Isocrates and Alcidamas. This volumes focuses particularly on the generation before Aristotle wrote his Rhetoric, the central text of ancient Greek rhetorical theory. Individual papers concentrate on different aspects of the Peripatetics' writings, both of Aristotle and Theophrastus, their thoughts on character, emotion, logos, style, and metaphor, the influences of dramatic writings, the relationship with Plato and with the Rhetorica ad Alexandrum , and the historical contexts. Some papers offer close readings of individual passages, while others tease out information based on fragmentary references. All of the papers offer original insights based on a thorough knowledge of the original texts.

In this volume, Moshe Lavee offers an account of crucial internal developments in the rabbinic corpus, and shows how the Babylonian Talmud dramatically challenged and extended the rabbinic model of conversion to Judaism. The history of conversion to Judaism has long fascinated Jews along a broad ideological continuum. This book demonstrates the rabbis in Babylonia further reworked former traditions about conversion in ever more stringent direction, shifting the focus of identity demarcation towards genealogy and bodily perspectives. By applying a reading-strategy that emphasizes late Babylonian literary developments, Lavee sheds critical light on a broader discourse regarding the nature and boundaries of Jewish identity.
