Towards a Revival of Analytical Philosophy of History: Around Paul A. Roth's Vision of Historical Sciences presents the state of the art in the philosophy of history. The purpose of this book is to discuss the revival of analytical philosophy of history proposed by Paul A. Roth, a world-known analytical philosopher of the social sciences and the humanities. The first four papers outline the reasons for the decline of philosophy of history, its present phase of development, and its possible future. The other authors discuss important questions of this field of research including: the ontological status of the past, the epistemological assumptions of historical research, the explanatory dimensions of the narrative. In the last group of papers, the authors apply some of Roth's theoretical ideas within their own fields of research. Contributors are: Krzysztof Brzechczyn, Nancy D. As China's political system changed dramatically from 1788 to the 2010s, the governance of Jianghan's dikes and polders also changed, moving from indirect supervision by the state to direct management. This shift has dramatically improved the security of the dike systems and has had a profound impact on the Jianghan people's lives. Based on rarely used local gazetteers and newly available archival materials, this book uses a multidimensional interactive approach to explore water control and state-society relations in rural China over the past three centuries.

Alma De Groen is a New Zealand born playwright who came to Australia in 1964, married the artist Geoffrey De Groen and began writing plays in 1968. Twenty-four years after the performance of her first play she has made a formidable contribution to contemporary drama with stage plays and with television, film and radio scripts, each of which is distinguished by her unique dramatic vision and her unusual insight to human life and society. Each play is distinct from the others, beginning with her first performed stage play, The Joss Adams Show (1970), through to the controversial and highly acclaimed The Rivers of China (1987), and the compassionate The Girl Who Saw Everything (1991). The importance of her work has been recognised by awards which include two AWGIEs and the New South Wales State Award and the Victorian Premier's Award for Drama in 1988.
