Comment prévoir l'inconnu et contrôler l'inattendu ? Les Anciens ont tenté de répondre à ces questions en interprétant des signes dans lesquels il reconnaissaient des messages divins. Ce recueil permet de comparer la diversité de leurs questionnements dans les sociétés polythéistes ou monothéistes de la Méditerranée antique. Il interroge premièrement la construction rituelle des signes au sein des institutions divinatoires ; deuxièmement, des phénomènes naturels spontanés, qui, apparus hors de toute institution, ont néanmoins valeur de présages ou d'avertissements ; troisièmement, l'intentionnalité manifestée à travers l'intervention divine dans l'histoire des peuples ou les vies singulières ; quatrièmement, l'épistémologie des signes dans des élaborations philosophiques ou théologiques qui éclairent la tension entre données oraculaires et contrôle ritualisé des signes, entre données révélées et argumentations raisonnées visant à neutraliser les injonctions du destin. How to foresee the unknown and master the unexpected? Ancient people tried to answer those questions by interpreting signs considered as divine messages. In this volume, the writers compare and examine this manifold questioning in the polytheistic and monotheistic societies of the ancient Mediterranean Sea. In the first place, it is shown how signs were ritually constructed within instituted practice of divination ; second, how, although some spontaneous natural phenomena appeared out of any instituted context, may nevertheless constitute omens or monition ; third, how the gods' intervention may reveal a sort of intention in the course of national history or individual life ; finally, the essays study the epistemology of signs at work in some philosophical or theological elaborations, which may enlighten the tension between oracular evidence and ritual control of signs, and between revealed facts and reasoning arguments intending to neutralize the injunctions of the divine.

In Modern Individuality in Hegel's Practical Philosophy , Erzsébet Rózsa aims to reconstruct Hegel's theory of individuality in the light of his idea of modernity. Modern individuality is one of the central topics of Hegel's practical philosophy, discussed systematically in the forms of subjectivity in subjective, objective, and practical spirit. Hegel interpreted modern existence and lifeworld in the context of law, politics, economy, and private life. "Infinite subjective freedom" is the historical principle of the "modern age", as well as the basic determination of modern individual forms of existence and knowledge. Modern form of life and mentality based on the values and practical actions of self-knowledge and self-determination is an achievement of historical significance. This radical turn, however, gives a new perspective to the problem of good life: the normative role of substantial values is overshadowed by the stabilizing function of the "objective order" of institutions.

"Hunderte von Gottheiten schmucken die Wannen und Deckel ausgewahlter Sarkophage und Sarge aus der 30. Dynastie und der Ptolemaerzeit, die hauptsachlich in Saqqara gefunden wurden. Carolina Teotino teilt diese Gotter in verschiedene Gruppen auf, die den Verstorbenen in Form kurzer Reden ansprechen. Zwei beinahe parallele Objekte, die Sarkophage des Djedher und des Anchhapi, dienen als Ausgangspunkt dieser Studie und werden mit weiteren teilweise unveroffentlichten Quellen verglichen. Adressiert werden in erster Linie Fragen zum Ursprung und zur Funktion dieser Dekoration sowie zur Herkunft und zu den Amtern der Inhaber dieser Sarkophage. Ein Fokus liegt dabei auf dem Diskurs zwischen Toten- und Tempelkult und der Form der Dekoration als monumentale Inszenierung der Episoden und Riten in der Balsamierungshalle. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass einige dieser Gotterkreise sich bereits in das Mittlere Reich zuruckverfolgen lassen, andere treten erst in den Raumen fur den Osiris-Kult in den griechisch-romischen Tempeln auf. Die Reden sind teilweise kompiliert als Exzerpte aus bekannten osirianischen Kompositionen aus Tempel- und Totenkontext"--

Mose und Aaron als Beamte des Gottes Israels : Die Entstehung des biblischen Konzepts der Leviten /

Die Untersuchung zeichnet die Entstehung des Levitismus nach. Dieser kommt erst in der spätvorexilischen Zeit als judäische Innovation des Stammeskonzeptes auf. Überlieferungen über den Jakobsohn Levi werden nach 722 in Juda zur Formung einer Gruppenidentität der Beamten und literalen Eliten genutzt. Mose und Aaron als Beamte des Gottes Israel werden Protagonisten dieser Gruppierung, weswegen man auch das Priestertum am Zentralheiligtum als Teil der Beamtenschaft integrierte, sodass u.a. im Deuteronomium von levitischen Priestern gesprochen wird. In der nachexilischen Zeit wurden eine Reihe von Berufen und Gruppen unter der Bezeichnung "Leviten" als eine Art Tempelbeamtentum der Priesterschaft unterstellt. Dabei wurde eine Professionalisierung des Kultbetriebes und eine radikale Trennung von kultischen und nichtkultischen Bereichen und Tätigkeiten vollzogen. Darin agierten die Leviten für das Volk und repräsentierten es in den nichtkultischen Bereichen des Tempels. The study tracks the origins of the Biblical Levitism. It only emerged in the late pre-exilic period as a Judean innovation of the tribal concept. After 722, traditions about Jacob's son Levi were used in Judah to form a group identity of officials and literal elites. Moses and Aaron, as officials of the God of Israel, became protagonists of this group. Therefore, the priests at the central shrine were also integrated as part of the officials, so that Deuteronomy, for example, speaks of Levitical priests. In the post-exilic period, a number of professions and groups were subordinated to the priesthood under the designation "Levites" as a kind of temple office. In the process, a professionalisation of the cultic sector and a radical separation of cultic and non-cultic areas and activities took place. In this, the Levites acted on behalf of the people and represented them in the non-cultic areas of the temple.

It is of special interest to us, because in its third part Josephus undertakes to explain the main ideas and laws of Judaism and its \'theocratic\' constitution to non-Jewish readers. This volume gives an introduction to Contra Apionem as a whole, a German translation, and a precise analysis and interpretation of the work's third part on Judaism, especially its meaning for non-Jewish readers. This study gives the reader access to an aspect of Josephus and to a part of his important work Contra Apionem , which, to date, have not attracted sufficient scholarly attention.

Intertextualität als Konstruktionsprinzip : Transformationen des Kriminalromans und des romantischen Romans bei Peter Handke und Botho Strauß /

Die ironisch-spielerische Neuverwendung von populären Gattungen und tradierten Darstellungsweisen stellt ein bemerkenswertes Phänomen heutiger Literatur dar. Die vorliegende Arbeit analysiert diese Form von Intertextualität in Prosawerken von Peter Handke und Botho Strauß und führt damit differente Spielarten solcher Gattungs-Transformation vor. Beide Autoren - die hier erstmals unter diesem erzähltechnischen Aspekt zusammengebracht werden - verwenden zur Konstruktion ihrer Texte 'vorgefertigte' Erzählmodelle: den Kriminalroman und den romantischen Roman. Die Untersuchung zeigt, wie Handke und Strauß deren Bauelemente neuartig einsetzen und so innovative Erzählformen schaffen. Wie in Handkes Krimi-Transformationen die Rätsel unaufgeklärt bleiben und sich das 'looking for clues' mit der Thematik von Zeichendeutung verbindet, wird in den Analysen dargelegt. In Der Hausierer, Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter und Der kurze Brief zum langen Abschied zeigt sich dabei eine Entwicklungslinie. Darüber hinaus stellt sich Die Stunde der wahren Empfindung durch den Befund einer Transgression des Krimi-Modells als Scharnierwerk im Oeuvre dar. Die Erarbeitung der vielfältigen Romantik-Bezüge in Strauß' Der junge Mann enthüllt, wie die prätextuellen Themen und Motive mit ironischer Distanz verwendet werden. Romantische Reflexionsstrukturen werden radikalisiert und in andere Funktionszusammenhänge gestellt. Abschließend werden die nachgewiesenen intertextuellen Konstruktionsprinzipien im Kontext postmoderner Literatur betrachtet.
