This book provides a survey of Yuan sanqu , with its principal sections focusing on fundamental theories, compositional features, and historical evolution. Its treatment of qu criticism and bibliography offers a comprehensive perspective on the defining characteristics of sanqu . Serving both as a general overview of sanqu and a foundation for future research, this publication explores this unique yet historically marginalized genre of song-poetry. It generates new insights through textual analysis and the nuanced discussion of dualistic concepts, such as the interplay between literature and music, the Song and Yuan dynasties, and the relationship between ci -lyrics and song-poetry.

Excursions into Syntactic Databases /

This book is about syntactic databases (a.k.a. treebanks), collections of text material in which the syntactic relations have been made visible. It starts off with a general intro-duction to the subject and then continues with three in-depth investigations of more specialized aspects. In the introduction, syntactic databases are first placed in the larger context of linguistic databases , text collections with a broader linguistic annotation than just a syntactic one. Then some examples of syntactic databases are given, illustrating the range of annotation actually encountered. The introduction is completed with an investigation of database management systems for syntactic databases. The first in-depth investigation concerns the treatment of ambiguous structures in syntactic analysis trees, focussing on a very efficient representation for such structures and the means to create this representation. Next, classroom use of syntactic databases is examined. A computer program for this purpose, CLUES, is discussed, along with a suggested series of syntax exercises. The final subject is the importance of including function and attribute information in the annotation of texts. The central line of investigation here is a probabilistic parsing experiment in which the use of function and attribute information is the main variable.

Während der Regierungszeit des Großen Kurfürsten Friedrich Wilhelm (Lebensdaten 1620-1688) zogen zahlreiche Künstler, Baumeister und Ingenieure aus den Niederlanden nach Brandenburg. Friedrich Wilhelm studierte in den Niederlanden, heiratete die oranische Prinzessin Luise Henriette und verlieh der Kultur, der Kunst und der Wissenschaft seines Landes ein ausgesprochen niederländisches Gepräge. Der fruchtbare Kontakt mit dem angesehenen Nachbarn im Westen - im Jahre 1614 wurde das Land Kleve Kurbrandenburg zugesprochen - setzte sich während des achtzehnten Jahrhunderts fort. Einige der in unserem Band gesammelten Aufsätze verschaffen ein Bild der auch heute noch sichtbaren Spuren dieses freundschaftlichen Verhältnisses. Die Architektur der Stadt Potsdam ist der lebendige Zeuge. Während des neunzehnten und des zwanzigsten Jahrhundert sind die Niederlande in Europa nicht mehr tonangebend und tritt an die Stelle der einseitigen Abhängigkeit eine produktive Wechselwirkung zwischen ihnen und Brandenburg-Preußen. In den vorliegenden Beiträgen wird aber vor allem der niederländische Einfluß dargestellt. Da kein Dichtername so stark mit Preußen und seiner umstrittenen Geschichte identifiziert wird wie derjenige Theodor Fontanes, bekommt Fontane mit seiner kritischen Bewertung Preußens in diesem Buch neben Potsdam den Ehrenplatz.
