A New Look at the pds.t-n.t-nbw of Zauberspru?che fu?r Mutter und Kind, Spell P /
:
Since Erman’s rst edition of the Zauberspru?che fu?r Mutter und Kind, translators have never adequately explained the meaning behind the phrase pds.t-n.t-nbw, appearing in Spell P. Understanding the form of this amulet, meant to protect a child from sickness brought about by poison, is integral to a new interpretation of the Zauberspru?che fu?r Mutter und Kind Spell P. This paper begins with an analysis of the various attestations of the term pds.t, and then offers a new translation of Spell P. The main focus then shifts to a detailed examination of the archaeological and textual sources connected with the Spell P ritual, in order to understand the form of the pds.t-n.tnbw amulet, and how it, and the other amulets mentioned in Spell P, all served to remove poison from the body.

A new kind of containment : "the war on terror," race, and sexuality /
:
This book addresses "containment" as it relates to interlocking discourses around the "War on Terror" as a global effort and its link to race and sexuality within the United States. The project emerged from the recognition that the events of 11 September 2001, prompted new efforts at containment with both domestic and international implications.

Promoting a New Kind of Education: Greek and Roman Philosophical Protreptic /
:
Authors of Greek and Roman philosophical protreptics imitate a kind of exhortation initially associated with Socrates, creating a thread of typically protreptic intertextuality that classifies protreptic as a genre of philosophical literature. Tracing this intertextuality from the Socratic authors to Boethius, the book shows how Greek and Roman protreptics define philosophy as a revisionary form of education, articulate the ultimate goals of this education, and associate their authors and audiences with philosophy as a new discursive practice and a new way of living. These texts constitute the first chapter in the history of educational revision and thus offer thoughts that continue to inform every debate on educational goals.

Die Papyrusbriefe zwischen Eltern und Kindern : Eine generationsübergreifende Beziehung /
:
