:
A scholarly volume devoted to an understanding of contemporary nomadic and pastoral societies in the Middle East and North Africa. Composed of four sections around the theme of contestation it includes examinations of contested authority and power, space and social transformation, development and economic transformation, and cultures and engendered spaces.

Organizing Muslims and integrating Islam in Germany : new developments in the 21st century /
:
In Organizing Muslims and Integrating Islam in Germany , Kerstin Rosenow-Williams analyzes the challenges faced by Islamic organizations in Germany since the beginning of the 21st century. Outlining the expectations German political actors have of Islamic organizations and the internal interests of these organizations, the author illustrates that organizational response strategies involve patterns not only of adaptation, but also of decoupling and protest. The study introduces an innovative research framework based on organizational sociology and provides empirical insights into three major Islamic umbrella organizations (DITIB, IGMG, ZMD) and their relationships with other actors. The comprehensive analysis of the German institutional environment and related developments in Islamic organizations makes this study highly relevant to scholars and politicians, as well as the general public.

The Taifa Kingdoms : Reconsidering 11th-Century Iberia /
:
The 11th century has traditionally been regarded as a turning point in the evolution of medieval Iberia. The dismantling of the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba gave way to a process of political and territorial fragmentation that contributed to weakening Islamic power vis-a-vis the incipient Northern Christian kingdoms and ultimately leading up to the establishment of the Almoravid dynasty. The Taifa Kingdoms: Reconsidering 11th-century Iberia gathers contributions from a diverse group of Medieval Historians, Arabists, Art Historians and Archaeologist seeking to explore new approaches to understand one of the most complex and fascinating moments in al-Andalus. From political history, to socio-economic organization, and artistic and scientific activities, the book covers a wide range of topics and issues from fresh perspectives. Contributors Javier Albarrán, Xavier Ballestín, Amira K. Bennison, Pascal Buresi, Elsa Cardoso, Carlos de Ayala, Carolina Domenech Belda, Maribel Fierro, Miquel Forcada, Alejandro García-Sanjuán, Teresa Garulo, Adday Hernández López, Carlos Laliena, Eneko López Martínez de Marigorta, María Marcos Cobaleda, María Antonia Martínez Núñez, Aurélien Montel, Julián Ortega, Alejandro Peláez Martín, Víctor Rabasco, Julio Samsó, Bilal Sarr, Philippe Sénac, and Bruna Soravia.

Proliferation and Bifurcation of the Sufi Orders in Twentieth-Century Egypt /
:
This study covers a period of some seventy-five years, from the abolition of right of qadam (priority) in 1905 until the adoption of the Law Concerning the Regulations for the Sufi Orders of 1976 by the Egyptian Parliament. During this period, regulations for the Sufi orders were contested and remained in limbo when amendments proposed by the shaykhs of the orders continued to be rejected by the mufti of Egypt. The abolition of right of qadam generated a proliferation of Sufi orders. A core realm of sufi orders recognized by the authorities was known as "official Sufi orders". A larger group of Sufi orders emerged which did not have official recognition and was referred to as "free Sufi orders". The history of the Sufi orders in both categories in the post- qadam era is at the centre of the present study.
