Egyptian historiography is determined by the fact that transmission of the historical record is left to chance. Ludwig Morenz therefore develops a method of "fragmentarily thick description," borrowing terminology from anthropologist Clifford Geertz, as a way of addressing the holes left in the record while still arriving at as complete a picture of the third century BCE Gebelein society as possible. From this localized perspective, a new understanding of the region's culture, including conceptualizations of the landscape, the socio-economic situation, the mentality of the people and their methods of discourse, arises. Even with this new method the private realities of the men, women, and children can remain in shadows. However, it is possible, as a result of the descriptive model, to better understand the sources at hand and to draw connections among intellectual-, economic-, and social-historical frameworks. Utilizing Morenz's method widens our understanding of the traditionally undervalued "dark" times of the third century BCE Gebelein region. Upon closer examination of the socio-economic and mentalities history, the transformation of Egyptian society emerges as colorful and contradictory.

Das Buch versucht, zwei bislang unterschätzte Psalmen im Psalter, die dort weit auseinanderstehen, als 'Entwicklungszusammenhang' aufzufassen und so eine neue Art der Gruppierung - jenseits von Gunkel - zu initiieren. Zugleich wird ein besseres, adäquateres Verständnis beider Gedichte vorgestellt, eruiert teils in wechselseitiger Betrachtung, teils durch die Beleuchtung im Lichte der Traditionen. Im einzelnen stellt sich heraus, daß der Sinn der gruppierten Psalmen sich erst dann so recht zu erschließen beginnt, wenn - hier wie dort ziemlich gleicherweise - priesterliche und prophetische Überlieferungen als Verstehensschlüssel eingeführt werden. Was die beiden Texte im Psalter trotz genetischen Zusammenhangs voneinander unterscheidet, ist der Wechsel von einem historischen Ort zum andern: Das eine Gedicht ist gerade noch vor dem Umschwung zum Frühjudentum zustande gekommen, das andere setzt diesen Neuanfang schon voraus. Das Buch lenkt so die Aufmerksamkeit auf zwei markante Zeugnisse, die auch glaubensgeschichtlich wichtig sind.

Mit der osmanischen Besetzung 1541 nahm die Geschichte der ungarischen Hauptstadt und königlichen Residenz Buda (Ofen) ein tragisches Ende. Die Rückeroberung war von den Habsburgern seit langem geplant, doch erst 1686 konnten die christlichen Heere die Stadt befreien. Gleich danach wanderten Menschen in die Stadt ein. Als Folge der Ansiedlung von katholischen Deutschen konzentrierte sich die politische Macht hauptsächlich in den Händen der deutschen Bewohner, doch die Stadt wurde dennoch als ein multiethnischer und multireligiöser Ort wiedergeboren. Dieses Buch ist kein stadtgeschichtliches Werk im klassischen Sinne, denn Eleonóra Géra nähert sich der Epoche nicht aus der Perspektive der öffentlichen Verwaltung, sondern stellt aus einer mikrohistorischen Perspektive ihre Kulturgeschichte vor.

Bis heute werden die Eroberungen und die Herrschaft der Mongolen von vielen Iranerinnen und Iranern als traumatisches Ereignis oder gar als "Genozid" angesehen. Diese Einschätzung spiegeln auch die im Iran der Pahlavizeit und der Islamischen Republik publizierten Monographien und Artikel zur Mongolenzeit wider, die vor allem als Lehrbücher an Schulen und Hochschulen verwendet werden. Daher besteht der wesentliche Ansatz in Anja Pistor-Hatams Analyse dieser historischen Erzählungen im Sinn, den ihre Autorinnen und Autoren den kontingenten Ereignissen dieser Epoche geben. Dabei bedienen sie sich vielfach Kohärenzfiktionen, die der Konstruktion von (nationaler) Identität und Selbstgewißheit dienen, wie der Vorstellung vom Phönix aus der Asche: niemals wird eine fremde Macht "Iran" zerstören können, da es sich selbst nach dem "Mongolensturm" in neuem Glanz wieder erhob. The thirteenth-century Mongol invasions and their aftermath are largely seen as traumatic and even regarded as genocide by many Iranians. This is seen in the many texts on the subject published during the Pahlavi era and the Islamic Republic. In her book, Anja Pistor-Hatam takes a close look at these historical narratives and the meanings their authors give to the central events of this period. She explains how Iranian authors use fictions of coherence to construct their national identity as well as reassure themselves that there could never again be a power capable of destroying Iran.

The relationship between theology and philosophy in Gregory of Nyssa's thought is a subject of great controversy. This study on one of Gregory's key writings does not however focus on the study of the source material, but discusses instead the philosophical implications of Gregory's ideas. Thus it is possible to place Gregory's principles in a broader context while maintaining the differences with philosophy. In the first part of the work, the Prooemium of the De Vita Moysis is examined. Following the classical rhetorical tradition, Gregory here starts off with the central themes of the entire work. The second part is devoted to the concept of theoria . This is explored through discussions of the eternity of God, \'language theory\', human striving towards God, and biblical interpretation. In the last chapter these structures of the notion of theoria are further examined in the light of the theophany in the De Vita Moysis .

Im Zentrum stehen künstlerische Strategien der Zeugenschaft, der Trauer und der Entmythologisierung von Krieg, mit denen sich Theater gegen staatlich gesteuerte Geschichtsbilder und die politische Instrumentalisierung von Gewaltgeschichte positioniert.
