Das vorliegende Buch widmet sich den Lebensumständen und der Berufsethik der arabischen Ärzte des Mittelalters. Auf der Grundlage zahlreicher biographischer, protreptischer, deontologischer und isagogischer Schriften untersucht Bürgel verschiedenste Aspekte der medizinischen Ausbildung, der Berufsausübung und der Rolle von Ärzten in der islamischen Gesellschaft. Besonderes Augenmerk gilt dabei der Bewahrung und Weiterentwicklung der antiken griechischen Berufsethik. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt liegt auf den Wechselbeziehungen zwischen wissenschaftlicher Medizin und islamischer Religion. The present book investigates conditions of life and professional ethics of the Arab physicians in the Middle Ages. Based on a multitude of biographical, protreptic, deontological, and isagogic texts, Bürgel analyzes diverse aspects of medical education, professional conduct, and the role of doctors in Islamicate societies. Special attention is given to the survival and further development of ancient Greek professional ethics. Another focus is on the interrelations between scientific medicine and Islamic religion.

This volume contains the author's 'late harvest' from the fruits of half a century scholarly research in the fields of the New Testament. The essays on Paul oppose the view of history held by the 'Tübingen School' (F.C. Baur), and point out the importance of literary criticism for the theological interpretation of the pauline letters. The essays on the Letter to the Hebrews assign the appropriate historical place within early Christianity to this New Testament book. The essays on the synoptic gospels force the crisis of synoptic form criticism, and give convincing reasons for the alternative solution concerning the origin of the synoptic tradition. Five contributions complete the author's 'Theologiegeschichte des Urchristentums' edited 1994. In the second part various prominent German New Testament scholars engage into a discussion with Schmithals's contributions.

The relationship between theology and philosophy in Gregory of Nyssa's thought is a subject of great controversy. This study on one of Gregory's key writings does not however focus on the study of the source material, but discusses instead the philosophical implications of Gregory's ideas. Thus it is possible to place Gregory's principles in a broader context while maintaining the differences with philosophy. In the first part of the work, the Prooemium of the De Vita Moysis is examined. Following the classical rhetorical tradition, Gregory here starts off with the central themes of the entire work. The second part is devoted to the concept of theoria . This is explored through discussions of the eternity of God, \'language theory\', human striving towards God, and biblical interpretation. In the last chapter these structures of the notion of theoria are further examined in the light of the theophany in the De Vita Moysis .

Das Entstehen der modernen Kreativökonomie verortet der Kultursoziologe Andreas Reckwitz in den historischen Avantgarden, insbesondere der Romantik, und in kulturellen Nischen. Die vorliegende Studie stellt diese Annahme in Frage und rückt ihrerseits Bildungsinstitutionen und Bildungsromane des 18.-19. Jahrhunderts ins Blickfeld der Kreativitätsforschung. Die analysierten Institutionen - z. B. Kindergärten, Schulen, Universitäten - stellen Orte dar, an denen das einst bestimmten sozialen Gruppen zufallende Privileg der Muße anderen Gruppen zugeteilt wurde. Ferner zeigt die Studie im Anschluss an die Arbeiten von Friedrich Kittler, Joseph Vogl und Thomas Wegmann, dass Bildungsromane die Institutionalisierung freier Zeiten und die Grundlegung der Kreativökonomie nicht nur inspirierten und präformierten, sondern in Form gattungskonstituierender Kreativitätsszenen die Begrenzungen und Irrwege solcher Maßnahmen thematisierten, reflektierten und problematisierten.
