Der Paradox Eine : antignostischer Monarchianismus im zweiten Jahrhundert /

: These essays propose a new dating of, and historical setting for the letters of \'Ignatius of Antioch\'. In so doing this volume forms an important contribution to the study of Monarchianism and early church history as well. An examination of the fragments of Noëtus of Smyrna, the founder of Monarchianism, leads to the discovery of the oldest Regula fidei , and of its origin as part of anti-gnostic polemics. On the ground of late second-century parallels, especially Melito and Irenaeus, this Regula can be dated between 160 and 180 CE. It is within this context that the so-called Letters of Ignatius fit seamlessly. As a result of these findings this volume argues for a significant revision of our understanding of early church history. Monarchianism (\'Sabellianism\', \'Patripassianism\'), later considered heretical, is shown to have been the almost universally accepted belief within the Church up to the period of the Roman bishops Zephyrinus and Callistus.

En inscrivant ce livre à l'enseigne de la célèbre formule « faire théâtre de tout » du metteur en scène français Antoine Vitez, nous désirons montrer la persistance d'une problématique qui oblige à tenir compte de l'évolution des formes dramatiques mais aussi du régime culturel plus vaste, numérique en ce qui concerne le XXIe siècle, au sein duquel s'insère la transposition de ces œuvres sur la scène. Les études rassemblées dans ce volume jettent un regard croisé sur les pratiques scéniques contemporaines qui recourent à des textes littéraires au Québec et en Europe, tout en éclairant plusieurs enjeux théoriques et méthodologiques. Classics from prior centuries continue to fascinate theatre artists. They never stop thinking of ways to stage these works to reach actual audiences. By referring, in the title of our book, to French director Antoine Vitez's famous quote "make theatre with everything", we want to point out the persistence of a problematic causing artists to not only take into account the evolution of dramatic forms, but also the broader cultural regime, digital for the 21st Century, within which these transpositions take place. The studies gathered in this volume bring a fresh perspective to the contemporary performing practices in Quebec and in Europe using literary texts, and illuminate many theoretical and methodological issues in the process.

Théodicée plotinienne, théodicée gnostique /

: Plotinus' fiercely polemical treatise Against the Gnostics has proved peculiarly resistant to modern methods of criticism. So much so, that historians of philosophy frequently end up attributing to Plotinus himself the very beliefs which Plotinus attempts to demolish in his criticism of the Gnostics. Denis O'Brien attempts to unravel this paradox by showing that, in earlier treatises of the Enneads , Plotinus puts forward a theory of the generation of matter by soul, which he then takes for granted in his attack on the Gnostics. This leads to a wholly new understanding of Plotinus' 'theodicy' and of the way in which Plotinus himself conceived of his relation to the Gnostics. Denis O'Brien's analysis should highlight tired commonplaces and support the view that a consistent and original philosophy underlies the complexities and obscurities of the text of the Enneads .

Ces éditions révèlent que, bien au-delà de leur leçon morale, les fables sont devenues un pilier de l'éducation française. De l'histoire de leur institutionnalisation dans les écoles républicaines à leur adaptation constante que permettent leurs illustrations, ce livre éclaire le lien entre texte, image et pédagogie. Premier ouvrage à traiter ce corpus en profondeur, il questionne l'impact historique et social des Fables dans la formation des jeunes Français et Françaises.
